Vote Now! Daria is losing to the moose & squirrel!

USA Weekend continues its online poll, "Toon TV Showdown," for the favorite animated TV show of all time. From now through November 26 the battle is between "Daria" and "Rocky & Bullwinkle." The winner moves on to the second round against "Pinky & The Brain." So far "Daria" is trailing, 69% to 30%. Go to this link and vote: http://www.usaweekend.com/celebs/

They let you vote only once a day (unless you have ways of circumventing their cookies...not that I'm encouraging cheating!)

For your information, among the other brackets already contested: "Beavis & Butthead" got 61% to beat "South Park," and "Gargoyles" got 71% to rout "King of the Hill." When you vote you can see the full bracket with all of the results and future matchups.

I've already voted twice, but it doesn't look promising. From the looks of what's winning in the other brackets, it makes you wonder about who's watching these days.

Actually, while Daria is my current favorite, and I think it will stand the test of time, Rocky & Bullwinkle are actually pretty worthy competition. For its time it offered some satire every bit as good as Daria. If Daria loses to moose & squirrel she'll have lost to some honorable competition.

Oops...Now I've voted 3 times. Apparently they're logging your IP. If you're using an ISP with server-assigned IPs, just hang up and call back. Assuming you get assigned a different IP each time you redial, the voting software will identify your new IP as a new voter. Keep dialing until you use up the entire block of IPs your ISP has to offer. Maybe we can put the brainy chick over.

I would've bet anything Daria didn't have a shot, but it's pulling away too. 53% to 46%! If we pull this out, it's on to Pinky and the Brain, which just edged out Pink Panther

When I switched from AOL to my current ISP I set it up to use Netscape for e-mail, ng's, etc. I voted once tonight, tried to vote again and wasn't allowed. I closed Netscape (staying logged on to my ISP), opened Internet Explorer, went to the site and voted. It accepted my vote. I then closed IE and reopened Netscape, and successfully voted again. :-)

I wonder if this is being publicized at MTV's site, Planet Daria, etc.

I just saw the item in the USA Weekend magazine in today's paper. Usually I skip this piece of recycle-bin fodder but because of this one story I searched for it. There it was: "Girl vs. Squirrel." Isn't that cute? Nice pic of Daria too. Lots of people in the news don't get such a nice shot for their news stories. From the writeup though it's obvious that these people really don't get Daria. Or maybe it's me that doesn't get Daria and I like Daria for the wrong reasons. Naaah! I am cool and that is it...

Of course the reason Daria doesn't stand much chance is because NOBODY IS WATCHING! It's CABLE! (well, satellite) MTV doesn't have a fraction of the audience of the big networks. People aren't going to vote for Daria because they've never seen it, never heard of it. Rocky and Bullwinkle and the Flintstones were on network TV. Of course it was more than 30 years ago but they've been running more or less continuously in syndication ever since. Everyone has heard of them. They're famous. In fact this is the first time I've ever seen Daria mentioned in print, though that could be just by chance.

Unfortunately, after that it's The Simpsons. (Well, Underdog could win, but... <muffled sniggering>) I think we can all agree that that's going to be a massacre. But, it'd be nice to make it to The Simpsons.

I would be much more afraid of the Simpsons than Pinky and the Brain. For one, P&tB suffers from some of the same things that Daria does- a shit network and some interesting scheduling. On the other hand, The Simpsons are just about the most popular show in the history of Fox(their 'flagship,' if you will) and its internet following is tremendous- there were over 200 posts a day to alt.tv.simpson over the summer during reruns. The Simpsons losing to Underdog would be like some 16 seed in the NCAA tournament that's just happy to be there beating Kentucky. Here's to Cinderella(and to almost hopelessness) ;)

I just found I could stay connected and vote by opening a new instance of Internet Explorer (4.0) each time. Just start a new instance, go to the page and vote, then open a new instance and navigate with that instance of IE too. Close the first instance, start another, and vote with that one. Repeat. Each time you can see the vote increment. IE is the only browser I have installed.

If you have an account, probably college, which has Lynx there is an even faster way to get up the votes. Go to the site and vote like normal. Then hit the right arrow key to go back the vote area and hit 'x'. This counts for a separate vote and is much faster than waiting for the graphics.
