I personally think that if 'Daria' were to somehow make its way to the big screen, it would lose something. I mean, the show in itself isn't about huge advertising contracts and selling out, etc... (save the merchandise website) it's about a cynical, sarcastic girl whom many of us can relate to. If the show would make it to movie format, it would lose much of its original glory.

Daria isn't really appropriate for the big screen, anyway. There are no awesome special effects, gripping chracters, or emotional plot lines. It's a show about a teenaged girl living a pseudo-normal life. It's fundamentally a tv show. Besides, other than drawing in the fickle masses for a while, what good would a movie do? It's not like an animated show needs a movie budget to tell some story that can't otherwise be told properly. If a two hour Daria story needs to be told, a two hour episode would probably do the job as well as a movie.
Give me a reason at last to venture into a movie theater, which I haven't done since August? Oh wait, I'll have one... new Star Wars is coming out! OK, I guess we don't need a Daria movie. Studio 28 will get my business anyhow.
I am somewhat cynical about TV shows moving to the big screen, like "Bean" or
TV show, which I really liked at the time. God, if Daria turned out like that... we'd have the Fashion Club as the heroes! Maybe a movie IS a bad idea...)

How so? I don't understand. Many television shows have made the transition to film without too much unnecessary change to their basic structure. Sure, there have been a lot of lousy examples too -- "Lost in Space" being the most recent -- but I think Daria has the potential to make it.

I guess I haven't really thought it through a whole lot. I just can picture the movie format being too long for a really good plot line or something else similar, and I just wouldn't want to see it be a flop at the box office and have the show ruined. But, then again, I guess I can't really judge without there even being speculations of a movie to begin with.
