A high-school senior in Evans, Georgia served a one-day suspension for wearing a shirt with the Pepsi-Cola logo on "Coke day." School officials, in an attempt to win a $500 prize from the Coca-Cola company -- the prize to go to whichever school comes up with the best idea for distributing promotional cards to students -- integrated Coke into class instruction, had home-ec students prepare "Coca-Cola cakes," and invited Coca-Cola executives in as resource speakers. Students were ordered to gather outside to spell out "Coca-Cola" for a photograph; one student, Mike Cameron, was wearing a Pepsi t-shirt (which he was not asked to remove). Afterward he received the suspension for showing disrespect to guests and allegedly "ruining" the photograph.
Sounds like a typical week at Lawndale High ... certainly I can imagine Ms. Li inviting soft-drink executives to speak at her school if there was a chance of a $500 prize.
