I would like to know which eppisode of Daria everone thinks is like, the best. Don't say all of them, coz that is just too damn obvious.

"Road Worrier". And I wouldn't consider a comparison to the Simpsons particularly favorable, but I liked it too.
Can I have a favorite episode from each season? There's no law against that, is there?
SEASON ONE: "Cafe Disaffecto". REASON: The first mention of "Melody Powers" (yeah! Daria's very own Mary Sue!). The Chocolate Lady. Quinn and her phone card victim. ANDREA!! (My favorite supporting character--wish we saw more of her.)
SEASON TWO: "Pierce Me" REASON: I saw it right after I got my nosering. Daria finally does something dumb for the guy she's hot for. Trent shows he is serious about Daria (as serious as he ever gets about anything) and Daria, brain girl, is still clueless. Quinn discovers instant karma.
SEASON THREE: Too soon to tell yet, but of the whole 3 we've seen..."Through A Lens, Darkly" REASON: Further proof that, when you get right down to it, Daria really is one of us. Trent's one line that stops Daria dead in her tracks. Jane gets all the best lines (again). ANDREA! (Okay, she appears for 2 seconds, she's still my girl!)

Anyway, the best episode I can think of at the moment would have to be "Monster," where Daria and Jane make a movie about Quinn. There were only a few good lines in that episode, but even those were fantastic.
O'Neill: Could that movie be made today? Daria: I guess.. if you find someone to exhume the actors.
Kevin: I don't see any vegetables! Daria: You should have my view.
O'Neill: Where did you learn to use symbolism like that? Jodie: I used storyboards. I think that helped..
Quinn: And remember, fashion is fun, and everything, but we should really do something about the environment and stuff.
Besides the comedy, this episode also included Daria's best literary reference to date: a "claymation" puppet show based on Sartre's "No Exit," and a damn funny one at that! Two songs from this episode were simply fantastic (and relevant), one being by the B-52's and the other by the Lightning Seeds ("Change"). Now that's an episode!

First season: The Teachings of Don Jake, an episode a lot of people think is pediocre at best... I probably like it so much because of my own wacked camping/hiking experiences. Second season: Gifted, another episode others aren't going out of their way to praise. I liked this one because it gave us a lot of real insight on Jodie, and also because of the shallow smart kids (who reminded me of the kids in the Gifted and Talented program in elementary, who all said they were dumber than me yet managed to make my very existence a living hell). Third season: Through A Lens Darkly. It was nice to see Daria's pedestal fall a few feet, as she admitted she's just "human or whatever," like everyone else.
Of course, this is just the opinion of a sleep-deprived teenage girl. Take it with a few pounds of sodium chloride.

I love the way Jodie and Daria related to each other in this episode! Ugh, but the "gifted" kids at Grove Hills made me want to scratch their eyeballs out. I had plenty of those types in my honors classes in high school. Grrrr.

Notice how each Morgendorffer went insane in character? Jake obsessing about "the road not taken", Helen about her age, Quinn about being cute? Then Jake went in search of what he thought he'd missed (his "spirit animal") and Helen was caught up in his delusion (just like when they were hippies).

I wasn't gonig to respond, but no one mentioned what is in my opinion the best Daria ever, Arts 'n Crass. I think it's a brilliant plot about art and its relation to the artists.
First of all the fact that great art is rarely "upbeat", especially in a literary sense like the poem, the idea of getting a point across by shocking people, even if the idea is not all that shocking. Not a surprise we find Daria reading Allen Ginsberg's "Howl"
Second of all, there's the fact that they destroy the poster to save it. Daria would rather see her work destroyed than perverted. A great artist/art connection there...
Third of all, there's the ways certain of the characters are portrayed: we see Ms Li at her most tyrannical and Mr O'Neill at his most effeminate. We see rare moments of support for both Jake (the speech about the poster being Daria's personal vision of student life rather than propaganda promoting student life) and Helen (does the phrase "violation of civil liberties" mean anything to you? or the phrase "big fat lawsuit"?)

Jake is a frustrated idealist. He deeply sympathizes with that aspect of Daria's nature. His constant worries that Daria is engaged in drug-sodden debauchery shows that he really cares about her, though he doesn't really understand her very well.

My parents are too worried about bringing me up in a strict Catholic household and in discipline and in what I do wrong. Although sometimes they can be cool (like they're actually letting me go to my dream destination, London)....
