Worse episode ever.

"Depth Takes a Holiday" and "The Daria Hunter" will never be seen by me again. Just awful, did anyone actually like that drivel?

You're right. It was a lot like seeing a really nasty car crash. Even though you know it would be better to look away (or turn it off) you end up looking anyway. After it was established that it was actually two holidays who were talking to Daria, I only kept the TV on out of morbid curiosity. I wondered just how bad the show could get. I found out. This replaces Fair Enough as my most reviled. I think it was truly sad that they didn't burn this one rather than broadcasting it. I find myself wondering if one or two writers from bevis and buthead have been hired to write for Daria. Sorry if I offended anyone. I've never really sat through an entire B & B. I do know that what I have seen, I didn't like.

Sam Johnson and Chris Marcil wrote the episode, and they were B&B writers from the very beginning right through the bitter end.

They are also the inspiration for Sam and Chris, Sandi's bratty brothers.

I didn't like it at first, but now, for some sick reason, I like it. The only thing I don't like about it, however, are the awful hair-band videos-- it would've been a lot cooler if they could've dumped the videos, but hey, it's MTV, I guess.

Don't they also do some writing for "NewsRadio," IIRC? I love that show-- I especially liked the sci-fi fantasy ep that they did a few years ago. :-)

I did. I thought it was fairly obvious that it was fantasy. If it really bothers you, write it off as one long, peculiar dream Daria has after eating too much pizza or something.

I think that we may be forgetting that the primary goal of this show is to entertain, and it me laughing my ass off. Sure, it was weird. But they made it work. And that's what takes real skill, putting these characters in unbelievable situations, and making it believable, or at least somewhat real-feeling. And how. I really liked this one. Not for the same reasons I liked other episodes, of course, but I still liked it.

Yeah. If any one didn't like it, write it off to a contaminated water supply in Lawndale.:) They can't all be gems. Granted, their track record of "serious" episodes this season isn't so hot (1 for 3) but there's still a while to go. It seems like these episodes were made on a "casual day" type affair. Just because it's work doesn't mean you can't be silly at times.

Not me. But my theory is this episode was written as a response to the awkward scheduling of the show. Since they never have any episodes falling on holidays, they probably figured they'd do one episode with all the holidays put together. It was a noble experiment that failed in my opinion.

     My theory is this episode was a takeoff on "Death Takes a Holiday"
     (recently remade as "Meet Joe Black" with Brad Pitt), "Nightmare
     Before Christmas", and "Rudolph's Shiny New Year".

I thought it was pretty funny.
