The faces behind the voices

I was lookin on Planet Daria today at the "Behind the Scenes" page and i saw that Weny Hoopes has been in a few movies. I was thinking there must be a picture of her out there somewhere on the vast web. I SAW the picture of the guy who does trent's voice.. the irony is dripping, IMHO. I've found, as a rule, that I don't WANT to see the people who voice my favorite animated characters. Every time I have, it's been, well, disturbing. I saw Mark Hamill do his Joker voice on the Daily Show about a month or so ago, and it was REALLY freaky. It looked like the Joker had possessed Luke Skywalker. A frightening mental picture, to say the least... All of a sudden, I was thinking of the Joker in an X-Wing, making the trench run...

"Luke, you've turned off your targeting computer!" Luke:"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...."

You get the picture. :)

But it's not like the guy could pass for a gargoyle...he looks pretty normal to me. I used to watch that show and I thought it was pretty cool that Mark Hamill was the voice (mostly cause about that time I saw Star Wars for the first time).

But you do have a point. There are just some thing that are better left unseen.

Did you know that a 30 something year old black (not to be racial it just makes it more funny) black man does the voice for Elmo and various other characters on Sesame Street. I saw him do the voices on our local news and it was really weird.

I think someone's got their rumors mixed up. I think it's much more likely that the Powers That Be at "The Simpsons" have asked her not to do Bart's voice in public, so as not to take away from Bart, the character.

After all, Scientology didn't have a problem with Tom Cruise drinking the blood of virgins in "Interview With The Vampire." (I know: Bad example.) :)

Dan Castellanetta also did the voice of Genie in the "Alladin" TV series and direct-to-video "sequels" that the Mouse put out. Every now and then, it sounds like Homer Simpson's impression of Robin Williams.

Both Hank Azaria and Yeardley Smith starred in the old "Herman's Head" series on Fox back in the early 90's. Of all the voice actors in "The Simpsons", Ms. Smith is the one who has to stretch the least to do her character, as her normal speaking voice *IS* that of Lisa Simpson. In fact, I recall a gag in one episode of HH that made light of the fact:

"No, I'm not! (slams phone) Boy, I'm getting tired of hearing that! Herman, you don't think I sound like that Lisa Simpson character on TV, do you?"

He's very good. In fact, I recall him saying in several interviews that he originally based Homer's voice on his imitation of Walter Matthau, and that it has evolved over the years into what it is now. You can easily see this for yourself by watching episodes from the first season or, better yet, the "Simpsons" shorts on "The Tracey Ullman Show".

Yeah. Watch "As Good As It Gets". Smith (the lady who is always crying over the gay man) has the same voice. Course, she isn't that young (as Lisa)...

I remember reading an interview with her in a British TV magazine in which she said that she'd started to play Lisa's voice a little deeper than her own. I think that was a few years back, when Lisa had fully developed into her current personality.
