I had no idea at the time that the info I had was priveleged, nothing was indicated in the forwarded info...I just got a gut feeling right after I mentioned it all in #Daria+ IRC chat. The day after all this happened I got admonished by said source that "nothing should go out about this yet." Fine. Tell me after the horse is out of the barn. Eep!
Anyway, we Daria fans have a bigger problem now. Fscked Company (you know how it's really spelled) has a report in its forum that should give us all pause.

I guess the question is when the restructuring and layoffs begin. If the movie isn't in the can yet, they'd set themselves up for a big loss if they didn't finish the movie. However, awww...it's nice to hear that they care, and are reading our boards. Maybe then they understand how freaking mad we are at them for their treatment of those who watch Daria.
You think they'd be grateful for people obsessively focusing on one of their properites, because it's quality stuff, but of course they -- corporately -- don't give a rats ass. They just want the money, and most of us are in the wrong demographic. All us little people are an annoyance, they've made that clear.
BTW, by promulgating what I assume is a stolen memo with this post, aren't you basically helping pass along information out of school again? Really, Michelle, apart from alienating sources -- sources who should be grateful to you for providing a conduit to those who will actually tune into MTV for nothing other than Daria -- as a fan, you really shouldn't care what they think.
They've shut down all Daria re-runs. They ran perhaps the best episode -- Boxing Daria -- exactly once. And now they're shitcanning people who made them a hell of a lot of money over the past decade. And the channel, overall, is an abomination. Apart from personal relationships with certain people there, I don't think Daria fandom owes them much cooperation at all.
And in terms of your position as a writer on animation, what MTV thinks is becoming irrelevant, eh?

Cartoon Network (which is I believe Hanna-Barbara owned) actually might be able to complete the project. It's not as if the animation end of _Daria_ is the hardest part of the show (relative to other cartoons, I mean).

Cartoon Network owns H-B. CN is owned by Turner, which is owned by --shudder-- AOL-Time Warner.
CN has shown some backbone in airing the "Adult Swim" block on Sunday and Thursday nights: rerunning and buying new episodes of _Home Movies_, producing spin-offs of Space Ghost Coast to Coast (some by the same shop that produces _Ambiguously Gay Duo_ for SNL and _TV Funhouse_ for Comedy Central), and running some pretty interesting anime (_Cowboy Bebop_), and it's hard to get me interested in anime.
But even then, it is hit and miss. Space Ghost is a minor hit for CN, and it's production schedule over the past seven years has peaks and valleys that would scare Daria fans to death. No neat five years of 13 episodes each for Space Ghost!
That'd be the first time I'd watch Road Rules!!! I'd pay to see that!

I shouldn't be too surprised, since MTV was showing signs of disinterest in "Daria" before this, but I'm thinking "WHAT?!"
The only times I ever watched MTV were when "Speed Racer", "Sandblast", and "Daria" were on. Now * this * happened! Please, PLEASE, finish IICY and air it, MTV! Or at least send it to video, so I can either buy or rent it and watch it! And please, send "Daria" itself to the Cartoon Network, so I can at least try to watch it!
I saw some of the pictures. "Velma" looks too good, "Shaggy" is bigger than "Fred", "Daphne" looks like Felicity Shagwell and the animatronic "Scooby" looks like it has no eyes. No matter how much I might be bored with the original, I still see no reason to take this to live action. Just another example of the creative bankrupcy that is Hollyweird.
I just hope they never do that sort of thing to Daria. I couldn't bear that.
The problem with the "Scooby-Doo" movie is the same as with "Josie and the Pussycats." The original toons weren't any good, so what's the point in a live-action movie?

I've often fantasized about a live-action Daria movie. The main problem is, the fan base of the original toon is probably not big enough to interest the bigwigs of Hollywood. Not yet! If "Daria" is syndicated, it may eventually grow to "cult-classic" status, like "Star Trek" did. Then, something might happen. However, if Glenn Eichler and Tracy Grandstaff aren't involved in it, it'll probably be shit too.
Either Comedy Central or Cartoon Network would work. My big preference for Cartoon Network lies in the fact that Cartoon Network actually shows _new_ toons as well, so it's possible that _Daria_ -- if popular enough -- might generate a spinoff.

She kind of looked like that condom mascot in "Amazon Women on the Moon," with a green jacket, hair and glasses added on.
