Buffy sites get "Foxed"...will Daria be next?

Fox has sent out another round of anti-fansite cease and desist letters. This time, the target is Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

The upsetting part of this all is that now the Screen Actors' Guild has jumped onto the bandwagon. Now, perhaps Daria fansites will be spared because it is a non-union show, but this bodes sinister for many other categories of fansites.

In protest of this recent wave of "Foxings" there will be a fansite protest on May 13th, 2000. Lawndale Commons will participate in this protest, dubbed "Operation Blackout." While it is not practical to take down all of LC, we will make it impossible to reach our content from the front page of the site, whether you come in from http://www.msgeek.com/lc/, http://www.lawndalecommons.com/ or http://welcome.to/lawndale/ .

I urge everyone who has a Daria fansite to participate in this protest, and those who have other kinds of fansites also to do likewise.

I also implore MTV Networks and Viacom International to not follow this poor example. "Foxings" only alienate fans and lose fan base.

That really isn't a cause for concern given Viacoms additute towards intelectual property, MTV has never once in the past made an attempt to stop it, And that has gotten them in a number of fudes with the RIAA. Bascailly MTV and Viacoms additude is everyone knows Beavis and Butthead are MTV's creation, everyone knows Daria and Celeb. Deathmatch are owned by MTV and Viacom so what is the big deal, if people want to give us free publicity, all the power to them. and given MTV's legal department is just 3 old Jewish guys they don't have the reasources to if they wanted to.

As for Fox, Rupert Murdoch is an Australia Demogouge who once sued a newspaper for publishing a picture of him without compensation. The Aussie courts threw out his case, Ofcourse if that happened in the US he would have no doubt received damages and punitive damages in the hundreds of millions.

That really speaks for it's self.

Absolutely. Which is vital to a show like Daria, which is not as mass-media as, say, *Buffy*.
