The Emmys revisited

Hello!

A while back, I posted here the nominees for Outstanding Animated Program. (http://www.deja.com/getdoc.xp?AN=648899625.1) On August 26th the winner was announced:

Now then, they also presented an award for the best animated program more than an hour long. "Walking With Dinosaurs" beat "Olive, The Other Reindeer."

Maybe IIFA will get nominated for that one next year. (Yeah, I'm taking to you, you Academy of Television Arts & Sciences members.)

P.S. Anybody know if the movie will show in Canada? YTV is sure keeping it's mouth shut.

I've only been watching for about a year, but "Daria" is one of the most consistently interesting and one of the best shows on TV right now, animated or not. I'd love to see it win something.

Which says a lot about the Emmys, considering that it's almost universally accepted that The Simpsons has been complete and utter crap for the past three and a half years.

My thoughts exactly. IIFY was a perfect idea to give the show some well-needed exposure and to stretch Glenn and Susie's creative processes.

Daria should have won before anyway. Just off of the top of my head, "Esteemsters" and "Arts 'n' Crass" were such fantastic combinations of humor and social commentary that I laugh my ass off at them by just reciting lines from them. (You'll have to forgive me, I've missed Seasons Three and Four allogether and caught IIFY by complete coincidence).

Universally accepted by who? It still does enough in the ratings that there's never any question as to whether or not to keep it on the air. The critics still seem to love it. Somebody must still like it.

Granted, it hasn't been as good at it was in the early years, but that's natural for any long-running show. But it still has some good moments. And the "Behind the Laughter" episode ABSOLUTELY deserved to win the Emmy.

Just because the Simpsons have a lock (if 6 of 8 years is a lock...why didn't they win 8 of 8?) doesn't mean a regular Daria episode shouldn't be nominated.

Of course, lots of things I can't stand win Emmys. Most of them, actually. :-)

I can almost picture the obligatory ad that MTV will put in something like Variety if, no, WHEN that happens:

On the right page, it's plain white with the text: "MTV would like to apologize if the following people find this presumptuous and narcissistic..."

Turn the page, and the right page is a picture of Glenn Eichler, Susie Lewis Lynn, Daria and Jane posing with the Emmy statuette and the caption reads: "...FINALLY!" (And Daria's almost smiling.)
