Hi there. Long time no read from me anyways. I've been lurking in the group for a while now. Anyways, I used to run The Depths of Shallowness and its was deleted back in December by xoom.com. Since then I have been trying to get it back up on a new server but nothing has gone as planned. If anyone else remembers it and would like to help me out please let me know.

Assuming this is the clip I'm thinking of (I didn't download it, but I'm assuming it's from "Lane Miserables" where Daria watches Trent leave with a date), that Daria clip is what got me kind of interested in Foo Fighters also. I love the pairing of "Everlong" with what is happening in the scene--partly because I'm a 'shipper (*hides head in shame*), and partly because I would have been able to identify with that song/clip combination when I was in high school.

You are right. Shortly after hearing Everlong in Lane Miserables I became a major Foo Fighters fan which is why I run the site and I chose to let other Foo Fighters fans know about the Daria connection. I noticed during the Making of Special that Foo Fighters music was played in the background a lot. Its nice to know that lovers of great television also have great taste in music.

The "scare" I am referring to is Xoom's recent corporate restructuring or parnering or whatever, which resulted in an alteration to all the member names. I didn't get the message, so I had a period where I was convinced that they just plain removed my account. It turned out the reason I didn't get it is that nobody was checking my parents' e-mail (which was the one I originally used, over a year ago, to get the account), and so it did exist, but I just didn't know my member name.

I think bandwidth is the main reason a lot of sites get pulled. Many providers (especially free ones) don't specify any limits, but you can be sure that if you start causing a big load on their servers they'll drop you pretty quick, which means anyone offering video files is heading for trouble. 3 GB/month sounds a lot but it would only take 8 people a day downloading one 12MB Daria episode each (or one person a day downloading 8 episodes, like I did from the Daria Warehouse!) to take you over the limit.
I think it's best to have an ISP which is upfront about what they allow, so you can structure your site accordingly, and pull things if they get too popular.
With Demon you're allowed 60MB/day, with peaks of 150MB for up to 3 days a month. This works out at about 2GB/month max, for which they charge �12/month (about $18 I think). This price covers the whole service though, ie. unlimited email addresses and full newsfeed as well as the webspace. Not the cheapest deal around but apparently Demon is something like the third biggest website hoster in the world, so they must be doing something right, unless maybe it's just inertia that keeps the punters here. (Actually that's what keeps me with Demon come to think of it....) One thing though is that Demon don't actually pull your site if you go over the limit (unless you go *really* over the top), rather they sideline it to a slow creaky old webserver until your bandwidth usage subsides.

Yeah but it is only streamed via http, so you can download the .ram file, examine where it gets the .ra files from and download them...at least that's what I did :) And it does mean that the latency between US & UK viewings is 24 hours...rather than several months :) And it doesn't take *that* long to download at 56k :) (ok,ok, I realise that not all of us have nice fast modems).
