I'm trying to figure out something Tom said in DDMD.
In the scene where Daria phones him to see if Jane is OK after she missed school, Tom said that Jane called "saying things (he) didn't understand and making freaky accusations". Then he adds "it's like we talked about at the parade" - then Daria cuts hims off, says goodbye and ends the call.
At the parade? Obviously a reference to ILAP. But what exactly? What part of their conversation in that episode is Tom referring to?
It may have been just by Tom's mere mentioning of the parade that may have actually *scared* Daria, who at the time was probably thinking inadvertantly about him (an extension from what happened in "Fire!"), and it brought up her memories of them meeting each other at the parade, and her beginning to appreciate him as a friend then--and possibly something more. You're welcome.
We don't know exactly what Tom meant by "It's like what we talked about at the parade", but I can make some guesses.
In "I Loathe a Parade" (the episode that had the parade that Tom's referring to), Daria and Tom witness a parade float going up in flames (literally), flames which are put out by a fire truck. Daria admires the spectacle, saying "When homecoming turns hellish!". Tom asks her if she isn't glad that she got to see this, whereupon Daria says that at least she understands why he'd want to share the experience with Jane. She then adds that it's too bad that he never hooked up with Jane. Tom says, "It's okay. By now she'd be so busy snapping pictures, she'd forget I was even here. You know how she is." Daria then says, "Yeah. I know how she is," whereupon Tom adds, "Thanks for getting lost in the moment with me."
My suspicion is that when Tom made that comment in "Dye! Dye! My Darling!", he was referring to his statement about Jane's probably having forgotten about him in her enthusiasm over taking pictures -- the first overt sign of his dissatisfaction with their relationship. Daria, of course, ends the call very hurriedly because the LAST thing she wants to admit is that she likes Tom as more than as a friend -- Jane's already picked a quarrel with her out of insecurity and jealousy, and even if Daria and Jane weren't best friends, Daria simply might not be comfortable admitting that she is attracted to a guy.

Well, I definitely remember that moment, and its significance. But I got the impression in DDMD that Tom was connecting something in ILAP with Jane's "freaky accusations". How do those connect with Jane forgetting Tom is there?
Hmmm. Or do you just mean the more general comment "You know how she is"? That's a possibility. Even a probability. I think you've got it. Nothing else fits.

You're not being even dumber than you think you normally are. There was nothing else significant regarding Jane in that episode, so you probably guessed correctly.
