You failed to state the relevance of your posting to nyc.transit; since the only thing you ever talk about here is how the CBE was good for the Bronx, you must have something along those lines in mind.

This particular scenario was seen previously as a chess move in a cold war game that would be used to precede a massive nuclear weapons strike. Take out the enemy's satellites before they can use them to see your rockets coming. I could see many reasons why well funded terrorist groups might consider this an option.

The problem with this scenario is that the last time anyone tried anything like it, the Israelis spotted the Iraqis setting up the rocket and mashed it flat before they got close to launch.

Have you ny idea how much it would cost to launch an amount of material to actually be a threat? You'd need a hefty high explosive payload or a nuclear device to spread the considerable tonnage of material over a wide enough swathe of the sky (a spherical out at the geosyncronous orbit area is hooj).
