I've been to a lot of Daria sites (including the MTV Daria site) and most of them don't say anything about Sandy. Although, she sometimes holds a major part an episode. Does this make her a major character or a minor? I know it doesn't really matter, but I just really want to know.

I personally feel that while Sandy might be an important character in some episodes she is still not a major character on the show. But of coures this is my own personal thinking.

Which one is she? If she's the president, she's a minor character who has an interesting role with Quinn. Otherwise, you just kinda take the Fashion Club as one big character.

I think of all the characters who have alter egos on the closing credits as being major characters. I know that this includes Andrea and Jesse, but they must be heading for something.

Well, I would say the main characters are Daria, Quinn, Jane, Helen and Jake because they have appeared in every episode so far. (Although I don't think Jake had any lines in "The Invitation".) But there are characters that appear less frequently but are nonetheless important like Trent. Sandi's beginning to emerge as an important character; Quinn's rival, and like someone else said, the Fashion Club as a whole could be counted as a character. I was thankful not to see her in the last couple episodes. On a side note, I'm also thankful to see Kevin and Brittany becoming less prominent characters. Sure, Daria plays off them well, but they get on one's nerves. And I wonder if Jodie will tkae on the role of second friend to Daria in the upcoming season. It would be interesting to see Daria interact with some one other that Jane as a friend. (Trent doesn't count...she's not comfortable enough with him.)

The problem with Jodie is that she's so busy with extracurricular activites that she could never make the time. Let's face it-- Daria is the sort of person that requires a significant time investment to truly get to know, which is probably why most of her classmates don't understand her at all. Heck, even Jane doesn't really know Daria that well-- or at least well enough to see Daria's completed story in the most recent ep. (And *that* speaks *volumes* about Daria's ability to keep everyone at an emotional distance.)
Maybe if Jodie got rebellious and quit the tennis team, the yearbook, honor society, student council, etc., etc. she'd have enough time to hang out with Daria and Jane and then watch the hijinks really ensue! Yeah, right. And I'll start handing out large sums of cash to complete strangers for no apparent reason. :D

I wouldn't say major but then again I wouldn't say minor. Sandy's mom and Helen were rivals in high school (beauty, popularity, etc.. etc....) and Quinn and Sandy are kinda following in there footsteps.
So I would say it depends on the episode.
Linda and Helen didn't meet until Quinn became friends with Sandy. They did not go to the same high school.

Even though Sandy is not one of the major protagonists in the show, I think she is a major character because she leads the fashion club, and she makes all the major decisions. Remember the eppy where she was the sad girl? She lead everyone to ask for her advice. Major character
I would call her a regular character, but not a major character. Major characters are Daria, Quinn, Helen, Jake, Jane. Everyone else, while regular characters, aren't the main characters. IMO.

Sandy is minor, because she doesn't appear on all of the shows. I think most everyone from school, with the exception of Jane are minor characters. In fact, we should change the title from Minor to Supporting.
Minor is reserved for characters like Andrea who barely have one line a season, or the hypoglycemic woman. Or the rock and roll guy that kicked DeMartinos ass in the roller hockey game, those are minor characters.
So Sandy is a supporting character. The Fashion club is supporting, so's Kevin and Brittany. The main characters are Daria, Jane, Quinn, Helen, and Jake, at least in my mind.
