Oh, I don;t know. It's been discussed quite a bit on the Paperpusher's message board and has been foreshadowed previously this season (Sappy Anniversary, The Story of D). Anything could happen, you know.

I don't think that _Daria's_ going to do a full-nudity X-rated episode, but considering how long Tom and Daria have been going out, and how generally decent and caring Tom's been to her, it's quite possible that even a prudish, virginal girl like Daria would decide to Go All the Way. I strongly suspect that by now they've gotten to the heavy petting stage, at least occasionally.

Except for much of "Aunt Nauseam" (when Tom wasn't the problem) Daria has been WAY more relaxed and at ease with Tom since the mid-season break. No more awkward phrases like "relation-date-ship thing". In LITPL she was comfortable enough to drop a joke like "do I have to date this guy too?" (referring to Nathan) in front of Tom and openly call Tom cute.

She's certainly relaxed enough with him to seriously think about "doing it".

Yeah I pretty much have to agree with you there, in those times when Helen leaves them alone :) Hey that's a thought, perhaps they're gonna get caught "at it" if you see what I mean :) Heheheh you can just imagine.....

<Quinn> Ewwwwwww ! Mohoooom !!! Daria's naked with that guy again ! </Quinn>

That would be truly embarassing.

Well, now _Quinn_ catching them might be worse.

Yeah after all one thing that Daria and Quinn do have in common is bribing each other :).

Humm Jane catching them could also be pretty explosive :)

Eh, I think that Jane's already done her being mad at the idea of Daria and Tom being together, I don't thnk the actuality would more than mildly annoy her.

Maybe we should start a letter-writing campaign. ^_^

It's not as though the show hasn't dealt with sex before, either - Mr. O'Neill and Ms. Barch at the Paintball Jungle (and elsewhere), Jake and Helen at the cabin with a bearskin rug (and elsewhere). Admittedly they're a lot less explicit when dealing with teens, but not so much as to leave any doubt about Kevin and Brittany. And Daria may be skittish about actual physical intimacy, but I wouldn't call her prudish, not after she read her Melody Powers story at the caf ("Melody brushed some errant grains of sand from her fingers, tied her top back on and reached into her beach bag...")

There must be an all-pervading Intelligence behind Mother Nature -- the Intelligence that first brought life to this planet--the Intelligence that eveloved every form of plant and animal--that holds the winds in its grasp- -that is all-wise, all-powerful. The potato is but one small manifestation

Corvus Marinus said:

Right.

One difference, though, is that most of those were played as farce. Even the scenes with Jake and Helen, to some extent.

I don't think total farce will be how they would do Tom and Daria.

Ah, but the Melody Powers stories are Daria's way of fantasizing about being powerful and able to act decisively, whether in terms of sex or violence (and note how frequently what we've seen about them put MP in a Black Widow kind of role), without hesitation, shyness, or regret. Daria, herself, isn't much like that at all, though she obviously wishes she could be _more_ like that.

Hmm, I wonder how Daria and Gaia (from Pascal's _Fearless_ series) would react to each other? Gaia has no problems with violence, what with her mutant or more likely genetically engineered metabolism, but most definitely isn't fearless when it comes to love. :)

Probably not. But it's definately not going to be flowers and violins either.

I think the episode is going to deal with the conflict between Daria's caution and her desires. Since it's not the last episode of the season (or series) I wouldn't be surprised if it carries over into the season finale and the movie partly focuses on it.

caution

I think that what Daria really wants is to be able to express her emotions forthrightly. I _don't_ think she really wants to be a _femme fatale_ like Melody Powers, but I think she wishes that she could say "I love you" to the people she really cares about -- her family, Jane, and Tom. We know she wished she could have said this to Trent when she had a crush on him, and it's interesting that even now, she doesn't admit to being his "friend."

Y'know, you're right...there's no reason for her to completely cut him off. They certainly weren't friendly during Camp Fear.

Come to think of it -- after what went down with "Janey" -- protective big brother might have just written Daria off as a user.

You're right ... come to think of it, Trent hasn't acted at all friendly to Daria since _Fire_ ... he stuck up for her around the middle of _DDMD_, but maybe after he heard that Daria kissed Tom _before_ Tom broke up with Jane, his opinion of her may have plummeted, and he may have been less forgiving than Jane was.

Sincerely Yours, Jordan -- "To urge the preparation of defence is not to assert the imminence of war. On

Possible, but not too likely, I think.

In "Fire!" Trent's comment to Daria "nobody said you meant for it to happen" indicated he knew the approximate sequence of events that was about the unfold already. He pretty much knew what was going to happen.

There's really not been a lot of reason for Trent and Daria to be together in season 5. With more than one friend now, Daria has to schedule her social time and no longer just "hangs out" at the Lanes during her spare time. Actually, she didn't do this much during season 4, because Tom was hanging out there.

I kinda doubt that, to be honest. As someone else pointed out, Daria has more of a social life than she ever did; she's no longer hanging out at Jane's all the time, thus there's not much reason for her and Trent to interact. (In fact, when you *really* think about it, Trent didn't make nearly as many significant appearances in past seasons as people like to think he did.)

Besides, even *if* Trent's opinion of Daria has lowered, "Mr. Renege On Promises Made To Friends Because He Couldn't Get His Fscking Act Together" is hardly in any position to be judgmental...

In the same car ride in which he sang the "Betrayal" song, he not only told Daria "everything's going to be OK. Janey knows you two didn't mean to hurt her", he also encouraged Daria to get back together with Tom after their little break-up; Daria said they broke up because of Tom's family and Trent pointed out that she's "not dating his family".

Sounds to me like Trent had a two-part message for Daria - (1) I hate that one thing that you did, (2) but now it's over and no more will be said, Janey and I still like you, good luck with Tom.

I definitely doubt any sexual activity between them will be perfect either.

I can guess why. She's probably felt alienated for so long that she finds it very hard to tell the people she cared about that she loved them, Trent included. And if you're right, in "My Night with Daria", she may have to begin learning how to do that, starting with Tom.

Since every time they have more than 10 lines together, they fight, I'm wondering how the hell this is gonna work.

I figure that, as soon as they get horizontal on the couch, she'll freak and dump him on the living room floor. Then, we'll really see if he's St. Thomas material or not.

I suspect they've already "gotten horizontal" together, just not gone all the way. Incidentally, it's not particularly unreasonable of Daria _not_ to want to go all the way, yet. Tom hasn't yet made any permanent committment to her.
