The air hangs heavy with smoke. For twenty minutes I've sat in my upstairs bay window, and at every point of the compass the night sky has been painted with fireworks. Even as I type, I hear them continue to crack and boom.
Happy new year!
I'm going back to watch the last of the fireworks.
Martin.
PS Yes, the electricity, the phone, the gas, and the water still work!
i've got a bloody awful hangover... i was a bit drunk last night.
my friend scott was chain-smoking and refused to stop.. so i, errrr, cut my arm with a razorblade. bleeding had to be stopped with a towel, because it kept going all over the sofa. judith ran off and puked at the sight of all the blood, which is odd because she's a biology student and has to cut up frogs and stuff. nice.

I got up feeling like I had a hangover, which was somewhat puzzling, since I was alcohol-free (bar one glass of ale), on standby in case of any major incident. Hope I'm not incubating a virus.
Eep! Remind me to put down plenty of newspaper if you ever come to visit.
The effects of your self-harm were more immediately visible and readily stopped than his, of course. Did he get the point? Or is Scott now in "Avoid Alli" mode?
A frog has less blood than an alli. ;:-)
Hope you manage to put the cutting response behind you (no, I don't mean "Try cutting your back!").
I had to disect a frog once. My lab partner wouldn't touch it. Not a lot of blood just slimy organs and stuff. She wouldn't even touch a dead crayfish. I don't know what she'd eat if she lived in Louisiana, they have seafood with eyes still on them you have to rip apart and eat... (and I still haven't figured out which parts of the crab to eat since they were playing "go through this really fast and confuse the dumb northerners hahahah")

If you see the sun rise at night, you know that something's gone dreadfully wrong with the Russian arsenal. Get under cover ;-)

incedentally, I think the 'Y2K' effect on missiles is that they WON'T fire. So that kind of Y2K problem is GOOD. Well except for the fact that the Chinese have Y2K compliant missiles pointed at all of us right now, just WAITING for ours to fail so they can WIPE US OUT! Just felt like spreading some much needed sunshine here...:>} "Jordan S. Bassior" wrote in message news:[email]...

Hah! Amusing since they've got around 10 ICBM's capable of hitting the US, without warheads and unfueled just WAITING TO WIPE US OUT!!! (Consider by contrast the tens of *thousands* of ICBM's all fueled, armed, and ready to go over on our side of the Pacific).
The Chinese intercontinental nuclear capability as it currently stands is useful only as a deterrent. Its short and medium range nuclear capabilities on the other hand are rather substantial...
Happy New Year. Though here, it's still about three and a half hours away. Just beware of falling projectiles. What goes up.... The fireworks displays have started already in some of the towns around here, to culminate with the "First Night Pittsburgh" display, which means we won't want to take anybody to any Pittsburgh hospitals tonight.
I'm here at work, as usual for a New Year's Eve. (This is my eleventh consecutive, and the eighteenth in the last 22 years). So far, all is relatively peaceful. The excitement won't begin 'til the drunks get out on the roads in about six hours. Or begin falling down stairs in homes. Or pass out wherever. It's a great job.
And some of us sat there over midnight watching loads of computers doing ... absolutely nothing out of the ordinary (and getting paid for watching them :-) )
Same back to you
Vodafone went a bit wobbly for a while - probably less to do with the Y2K thing than with too many people ringing up to say "Hey, you're my bessht mate, you are - no, really - you're my besssht mate in all the world"!
Ah well. No work tomorrow, so I'm doing my Y2000 drinking then. And probably on Monday. And maybe Tuesday.
my mum had to work today (saturday), reported that they just sat around all day waiting for someone to call (my mother works for Oracle, technical support or somesuch). she said the only phone call they got was someone in nigeria or somewhere. :-)
my phone was ok, my dad got through ok when he phoned at 2-ish.... pity i was too pissed to answer it. ;)
don't over-do it.... it's been more than 24 hours now and i've still not recovered. bleuehghgg. public displays of self-mutilation also a bad idea, especially if you bleed all over other people's sofas.

When I wasn't celebrating the liturgy, I was sitting around at home, which, since I live at work, is not as relaxing as it sounds (I spent most of the time getting on with stuff), waiting for the call that would summon me, with my high visibility coat, hard hat, response bag and my cardboard-type cordon passes, to the scene of a major disaster. I'm very pleased to say I waited in vain!
Private displays of self-mutilation and bleeding all over your own sofa aren't such great ideas either. For me, any activity that involves exposing blood to surfaces other than those inside the circulatory system has too much to do with my job, and therefore is to be avoided if at all possible. I gave up playing goalie in ice hockey a long time ago for that reason.
Black and icky is pretty normal. It's white and festering that you want to avoid. Keep it clean, and let it heal. I'd say something like "And let that be a lesson to you, young lady" but then I'd sound like a parent of teenagers or something. Oh, wait. I am. So let that be a lesson to you, young lady.
i'm not bold enough to self-mutilate in my own living room, my mother might walk in. bathroom with the door locked is much safer. :-)
i've not had that, luckily. eewwwwww.
it's clean, and healing messily along with all the others. cutting with razorblades is i suppose a lot cleaner than attempting self-mutilation with a wire coat hanger like i did when i went into hospital and they confiscated any sharp objects i had. :-
