You remember me right? I posted that "I Am Like Daria-No One Understands Me" post........Thanks to those who responded! I'm glad some of you can relate....oh yeah and I'm also wondering why my post isn't here anymore....oh well that happens a lot to me like I'll post on a message board/newsgroup and my posts disappear! Strange. in case you're wondering, i'm 13. I am the youngest one here right? I've been lurking around in this newsgroup for awhile and it seems like you are all much older. Well I am not your typical teen....I mean, I am in some ways but I'm mostly not.......most people in my school like to "hang out" and go to dances, but I don't. Maybe I am just weird. but then I AM like a teen in some ways 'cuz I like to shop and talk on the phone and watch MTV, but I don't have a lot of friends. I am not popular in school....not that I really want to be. But the thing is, i'm not ALWAYS quiet and "gloomy-looking" maybe they think i'm like that in class, but around my friends I am hyper and I talk and smile...but of course they're all in different classes so people don't see that! well I don't really have anything else to say, thanx 4 reading my LONG post...
Am I The Youngest One Here?
Posts expire after a while, usually 7 days, although some ISPs have been known to expire news after as little as one day to save on storage. But as your previous post seemed to have been sent within the last 24 hours it's likely to be something else. Some newsreaders, including the AOL one I think, don't show posts any more once you've read them, so this may be why you can't find it anymore. However there may be an option you can set somewhere to show all posts, whether you've read them or not.

Hey, once the millennium bug hits, people who can communicate in Semaphore will be in huge demand. I've seen a health service document that urges emergency planners not to forget the use of foot messengers as a good, reliable backup communications system! Must remember to get my heliograph polished before 1/1/2000...

Now that is a nightmare scenario. When MREs become a preferred form of payment. British compo rations, fair enough, the cheese is nice and the sausage'n'beans very acceptable, but US MREs? Or have they improved?
I wonder if the emergency planners here in Grimsby ("Europe's Food Town") are planning a cordon round the town? With barter markets outside the suburbs?
Enough of this dystopian musing!

Actually, that reminds me of a very silly discussion I had with a few friends when we were undergrads-- what would be the most valuable thing to have after a global catastrphe that brought down civilization? We debated the value of gold, saw it as worthless. We also debated the value of books, and found that they were nice, but too bulky. We finally realized that the most valuable thing to have would be gunsmithing tools. ;-) It was just an intellectual execercise, though! Stop looking at me like that! I am *not* a nut, I just happen to find them interesting, that's all.
No, according to one of my friends in the reserves, they have not. In fact, according to the DOD, you're not supposed to live off of MRE's for too long, as they will, um, "clog you up." So for those of you outfitting your y2k bunkers, according to the Utne Reader you should "buy whole grain wheat and corn (maize) and a hand-powered grinder." I guess it's to help the MREs go down more easily.
And it looks like the US air carriers are already hoarding food-- Delta Airlines has announced that they will discontinue meal service on 140 flights-- replacing sandwiches with carrot sticks and dip or cheese and crackers. ;-) Sure, they *say* it's to save money, but we know better. :-)
Aww, c'mon Martin, it's fun! I'm saving as much y2k paranoia memoribilia as I can.... we'll look back in two years and have a nice chuckle from our tents. ;-)

I can't say about MREs as they came after my sentence,er,tour of duty. C-rats were okay if you spiced them up a bit. Except for the spaghetti and meatballs, which was renamed 'bloody worms and dirt' and the beans and franks which was called beans and shrapnel due to its distructive effects on your digestive tract. C-rats would also stop certain bodily functions. We used to have this little contest after spending a week or two in the field. We'd get our first messhall meal, wait an hour or so and hit the heads. Prizes were awarded based on length, girth and curl.
Gotta sgree with rich. I've learned my lesson about posting on topic. ;)

I'm 16, Kyle's 17, so we aren't all much older.
I try to avoid watching MTV. I hate the "music" they play and I don't like TV much anyway. I like shopping, pity I never have any money to spend. I should probably get a job, but I'd rather have all my teeth pulled out without anaesthetic (no self-harm jokes, thank you!).
Ha, I have the exact same problem. Despite the fact that I only took one different GCSE to most of my friends (French instead of Child Development.), I somehow ended up in different classes to them for every subject except PE and Science.
That's OK. I did have a lot of difficulty reading it, but that was my fault. I dropped a contact lens on the floor and put it right back in my eye again without cleaning it.... not a good idea, I can tell you. I've probably got cat hairs and bits of carpet fluff in my eye now..... And I think it's inside out and all.....

And Alli was talking about *losing* weight!
According to the British Medical Association chart, a healthy weight for a female 5'5" tall is from 111 pounds (~50kg) to 143 pounds (~64kg). Caveat: this in adult chart, but the expected weight curve is virtually flat between 16 and 18, anyway. In the "Growth chart for girls," a girl aged sixteen is expected to weigh between 108 pounds and 150 pounds, and "the lowest measurement likely in a normal child," if she's female and aged 16, is 99 pounds (and even that's if she's 5'0" tall).
ISTM Alli has two choices:
(1) Gain some weight.
or
(2) Make sure her dad knows how to post to atd. Some of us UK Darianites who are fond of Alli might want to go to the funeral, but we can't if no-one tells us where and when.
Martin.
..
I think you're being a bit melodramatic here. Anorexics have been known to fall below 4 stone before they peg out, so Alli's got months to live yet, well at least 6 weeks anyway. Those BMA figures sound more like average weights than healthy ones, I would have imagined that 7-9 stone was an optimum range rather than 8-10 stone.

OK, I'm going to change the subject completely. I just got back from the sixth form open evening at my school, and have once again changed my mind about what A levels I'm doing. I was going to do Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Design & Technology: Electronics. Then the careers advisor suggested that I do at least one subject that actually *interests* me, so I decided to do Art & Design instead of Further Maths. Then we had the 6th form open evening and I decided that Art & Design would be too time-consuming, especially as I'd have three other subjects to do, so I decided to do Psychology instead. One of my friends is considering that and, erm, Scott's pretty certain that he's taking it.....but that didn't influence my decision at all, no..... How pathetic am I? LOL.
But it's fun being morbid!
The needle just went off the scale... Psychology's interesting though. Maybe you'll get to do some psychophysics experiments on each other!

Yeah, I was actually considering that before I decided to go into all that Maths, Physics, etc, but then when I decided not to do Further Maths I forgot about Psychology for a few days. I find that sort of thing extremely interesting; the way other people work, and also maybe a partial explanation as to why I seem to work differently to most.
:)
There was an interesting case I heard of about a woman who worked in a mortuary and was a necrophiliac, and she used to shag the male corpses (presumably with the aid of rigor mortis...) Apparently she enjoyed the experience of being in total control. I guess a dead person is the ultimate in submissive/passive partners.
