Are Credits no longer Fashionable?

The episodes they showed on Saturday had just short bits of the opening credits after Daria doing an introduction.

Now tonight they seem to have just strung them together, unless I'm spacing out or something.

Did the Fashion Club declare credits to be, like, so 5 minutes ago?

I was peeved that they didn't have the opening song or titles for the new episode. And again with the annoying video clips at the end.

No wonder Glenn's getting out while the getting's good.

The way I see it, ratings for Daria must have reached historically lows... It almost appears that MTV is reluctantly fulfilling a contractual obligation of airing the remainders of the show, stripping it to the barebone in an attempt not to waste "precious" airtime. First the closing credits were gone. Now the opening sequence is gone, too, and with MTV in mind I am quite sure they are fundling with more ideas on how to squeeze in more of the real world stuff in the detriment of our beloved show. In this day and age, especially coming from MTV, nothing should come as a surprise. They are loyal to their customers. Customers, I say, and not viewers. Advertisers' only concern is the number of people watching their ads, and not their IQ. I mean, come on... just for once try not to fast forward during a Daria commercial break and see for yourself: The ads are geared towards the semi mentally retarded folk who comprise the majority of MTV viewers. Ads appealing mostly to one's instincts than intellect. Trojan Man? Kodak single use photo cameras used for what?? Bleah... gotta go for a jolly puke in the bathroom, to (almost) quote a favorite animated character.

To paraphrase that sleazeball marketer Leonard Lamm in 'Fizz Ed'. "The idea wasn't making the product available to the viewers. It was making the viewers available to the product.

Ain't it the truth.

Force myself? I INTENTIONALLY watch the commercials because they form an ironic counterpoint to the show itself.

MTV is FOR all the things Daria is AGAINST.

Seeing the contrast is mindboggling and actually ADDS to the show.

(This happens on normal TV as well, but not as much. I once saw An episode of THE ROCKFORD FILES that involved a bogus-frivolous lawsuit and there was a real commercial for a lawyer that could win you BIG MONEY in lawsuits.)

P.S. While I'm sad to see Daria ending, I'm happy that it seems to be ending on its own terms- the writers choice from what I read here.
