Closed Caption thing for Daria-EDGY speech

A while back I posted the EDGY speech from THE LOST GIRLS (one of my all-time favorite Daria snippets--- which is why I didn't mind watching it 10 times to get it right, not did I mind when I found out its on the web anyway.) I have it below for reference.

HOWEVER, I noticed someting about it.

When my TV set is on MUTE we get CLOSED CAPTION.

Daria actually SAYS

out of the quote unquote youth culture

But the Closed Caption is

out of the "youth culture"

Which one should be considered what Daria said?

(Self Reflection question--- is pondering this better or worse than wondering about Daria's Figure, as some other postings have done.)

VAL: Edgy is going right up to the edge of the cliff, being able to see all the way down, and dancing anyway!

(Then there was some dialouge)

DARIA: As far as I can make out, edgy occurs when middle brau, middle aged profiteers are looking to suck the energy, not to mention the spending money, out of the "youth culture." So they come up with the fake notion of seeming to be dangerous when every move they make is the result of market research and a corporate master plan.

Personally for the transcripts I use the closed captioning as a base, then listen to the ep again to figure out who's talking and correct transcription mistakes - of which there are always plenty :)

On another note, Xoom did finally process my application properly and I've uploaded all the sounds there. I'm still working on adjusting my page to work from my 'net service provider's page...but hopefully will be done tonight/tommorrow morning (depending on when I get in from work)

The one that she said, I would say! In the UK, subtitles nearly always omit some of the words or even paraphrase what was said in order to keep the number of words down. Daria isn't subtitled in the UK though unfortunately. Kind of odd that, given that MTV has done subtitles. I would have thought there would be a closed caption -> teletext converter that C5 could have used.

Yeah. But mainly, her saying the quote unquote implies that "youth culture" doesn't exist, which is a very daria thing to say....
