Another OT: AIM ID Roundup

I'm supremely bored.

I'm so supremely bored that I'm asking...the previously unaskable.

At least on this newsgroup.

What I'm asking is...for everyone who has that wonderful little download called AOL (almost typed in AOHell...you can tell I used to have it, right?) Instant Messenger...to declare their IDs.

I know some of you have AOHell (*sympathy hugs*), so of course your usernames are gonna do, but if you think no one's going to remember it feel free to type it here. For everyone else, it's strictly current AIM ID(s).

I'll start...my AIM ID is SvnRgdTgr. Don't overuse it now. And I *do* know how to block people *very* quickly. :)

So you put ICQ net detect in yousr startup group (I'm assuming you are using windows), and it just sits in your taskbar till it detects the net is up and then fires off ICQ.

I'm much like you...I have ICQ as well but I rarely use it because it slows up my system way too much. PLUS it's easier for me to chat from.

Ummmm...Phill, when I ran ICQ for the first time it automatically loaded itself onto the system tray so now every time I start up the computer it loads. But I've become savvy at using the "disable" function so when I reconnect the only thing that starts up is AIM.

As it does for me as well.

Yeah that is the default behavior, but I seem to have managed to screw that up at home, and it don't load into the system tray anymore (must have been when I reinstalled Win98), so I wanted to demonstrate that you could get round this :)

Just did a test, AIM and ICQ took about the same time to load on my works machine, though I will admit ICQ took a couple of seconds longer to connect. Though to be fair this machine is on a leased line so connect times for both would be minimised, it may be different on a modem, I alas never used (or installed) AIM at home, so could not test there (where I'm on a modem, at the moment :) ).

Could be never takes more than a few seconds for me, even at home on the modem connection, then again I only have one account on there, and at most a dozzen contacts. That could be the problem that when you connect it tried to connect to the ICQ on all your contacts machines, and if you have a lot of contacts and they are on slow (or relitivly slow :) ) network connections that could be what takes the time.

I have both AOL IM and ICQ on my machine, and it seems to me that ICQ *does* take a tad bit longer. However, this may be due to the fact that my AOL requires me to only enter my password once while I have ICQ locked up tight, needing two passwords for my entry. AOL is faster and easier for regular chatting, but I still think ICQ is better for sending files and web addresses... plus it keeps a history so you can easily find out what time you told your friend you'd be meeting him/her for lunch this Friday. :)

Unfortunately, I don't use AOL Insufficient Messenger. I use ICQ, which makes AIM look like the lame, unstable, resource hogging piece of crap that it is. (And I don't give out my ICQ number to any and all comers; there's too much weirdness on the net these days.)

Yes used AIM for a bit, and then switched to ICQ, because it seemed a better piece of software, besides more of the people I knew where using it, and the ones that also used AIM, I pursuaded to switch as well. :)
