I just got a chance to watch my tape of this show, and I hope someone can help me with a reference that I missed.
The references to The Graduate and to the Regency genre in the first two fantasy sequences were clear to me. The third one, where Daria's parents are hanging loose, went right by me. What was it about? - - Jonathan Sachs Sand River Software, Inc. To email me, replace the 'x' with an 'a'.

I don't think it was a direct take-off of anything. Rather, it seemed to me to be a story showing Helen and Jake as completely different people from the way they are now. In the story, they are laid back and cool, while in reality, they are (to paraphrase Aunt Amy) "tightly wound pains in the ass". :-) Remember, it was written just after Daria blew up at Helen for being compared to Quinn, so there's some bitterness there.
