I have to say, watching "Prize Fighters" on Noggin tonight was a special experience. And I don't mean that too sarcastically.
Basically, I identified with Jane really well. Her position of resentment toward the others, and the subsequent irritation at said resentment... A little background.
Like Jane, I more or less could care less about school work. I take AP classes, I'm on the newspaper, I love learning, and I more or less put my running, friends, reading, and writing ahead of everything else... Frankly, busywork doesn't interest me. I know this isn't the best atitude, but it's mine just the same. I justify it more or less because the community college classes I opt to take during the summer I manage to ace, as well as high marks on the ACT/SAT. In my mind, that balances out the sub 2.5 GPA. As well as more or less being coerced by my parents to attend community college for a year before transferring elsewhere. Since Delta, the local CC, and State, where I want to go, don't require your high school transcript by that point, this more or less feels okay to me. Still. I'm a Junior. When I see friends who are seniors going through the college application process, and friends in my own grade who are getting ready to do that, it's pretty easy to feel left out.
A lot like Jane felt in this episode. It was weird, actively seeing someone on a show that I could readily identify with, whose situation was not covered already by every other thing on primetime... You know?
Sorry for the boring rant on myself. Just felt a need to share.
