You know, something just occurred to me: In that scene, I think Quinn not only was subtly insulting Daria with her comments and dress, but Jane as well with the "artist" comment, the same for Stacy and Tiffany with their "bad colors" crack! What do you think? Thanks.

And I don't recall Sandi, Stacy or Tiffany ever taking enough notice of Jane to bother with insulting her.
Maybe I'm missing something - could you elaborate? You've also left out Sandi's opening remarks from your analysis?
(Was anyone dressed like Jane at the party? I don't recall.)

Stacy and Tiffany probably said exactly what was on their minds about Quinns "Fashion Don't" ensemble, and knew exactly who inspired it.
They see it everyday being worn by Quinns...umm...cousin at Lawndale High. Not that Stacy, Tiffany or even Sandi, are ever bold enough to say what they really think of Daria's outfit to her face.

Anyway, I reread the episode transcript and maybe he has a point. I'd forgotten that Jane was present at the party, helping Daria with the videotaping. I don't think Quinn would make that remark for the FC's amusement, but she might take a dig at Jane in Jane's hearing.
Hmmm. The transcript on OD has Tiffany alone making the "colors" comment. Hard to picture Tiffany catching on that Quinn was mocking Jane and coming up with an apropos comment. I think La Tiff just didn't like the colors.
I wonder if Daria and Jane dressed appropriately for the party:
Daria as Quinn in tight jeans and smiley-face T-shirt.
Jane as Stacy with long socks, miniskirt and navel-baring top.

Believe me the transcript is wrong. I just watched the episode and both Stacy and Tiffany made the same comment at the same time.
You've got to understand this was during the 2nd season. Tiffany was not as slow as she later became in future episodes.
That would have been cool! Kind of like the nightmare Daria had a few nights later...
