"Daria" hacked to ribbons by The N...

It sucks. It really does suck. The cuts are not only annoying, they are stupid and pointless as well. "Cafe Disaffecto" and "This Year's Model" were not even aired yet. You can bet that "My Night At Daria's" will also similarly drop off the radar.

Forget all I said about how "Daria" should have been shown on Nickelodeon. Nick would have probably cut the same or more out of it.

The only hope for "Daria" satisfaction is either an uncut DVD release or uncut showings of the show on TNN. You can bet that if MTV tries to syndicate "Daria" that the "sanitized for your protection" versions will be the one they try to sell.

What a revolting development...

I wouldn't say it was hacked to ribbons... okay, 'Malled' maybe. And some of my favorite parts were taken out, but it wasn't THAT bad. The problem with the edits was that a lot of them didn't make sense. If I remember correctly, they kept Upchuck blackmailing Brittany in 'The Lab Brat' because he caught her making out with a rival QB, but they can't have Brittany and Kevin talking about what they do without actually saying what it is in 'Malled'.

Then there's the profanity confusion over words like 'suck', 'hell', and 'damn.'

Tonight they finish off Season One and move on to the beginning of S2. Hopefully I'll catch all of it and point out the hacks. So, until then...

Too bad this "Noggin" couldn't simply just push 'Daria' to midnight (when even the kiddies would be asleep, leaving mostly the audience they're seeking), and play it in its entirety.

A poster on the Paperpusher's board wrote it best, something to the effect that Noggin's cutting of 'Daria' is akin to "Cutting bits and pieces of the Mona Lisa, and then attempt to sell it".

This is just ridiculous. I would've preffered after further thought that this "Noggin" not show them at all, rather than do this to a wonderful show. >:( No thanks.

After an outcry by the weak kneed, one Sonny Chiba karate film was released with virtually ALL violence removed from it. Characters would draw back to hit someone... and the scene would change. It almost seemed as though 3/4 of the movie had been removed at random. It was totally incomprehensible, and Daria mutilated this way must be similar.

This thing also reminds me of when they showed "White Men Can't Jump" on broadcast TV. I think Rosie Perez's remaining line was "the".... --- Gun control, the theory that Black people will be better off when only Justin Volpe has a gun.

It's fun to see all the daria episodes again, but it sucks that they are cutting out all of Jake's "damn its", those are the best! they did it in the teaachings of don jake (my fav). but oh well at least the show's still alive.
