Word from Glenn Eichler about TV Guide article...

Hiya...finally got confirmation from The Man Himself about the TV Guide article that ran on Monday with mention of a possible Mystik Spiral spinoff.

Basically what happened is this: Glenn got asked by the TV Guide writer about possible spinoff plans, so basically he told him that he was working on a spec Mystik Spiral script. Note the SPEC part of the comment. There has been no greenlighting of this yet, and Glenn is still in the process of writing it. It hasn't been greenlighted for a pilot, let alone a series.

As I understand it, the MTV process goes something like this: write the first spec script, and then if Graden & Co. want to see more, whip up an animatic ala "Sealed With A Kick" and submit that. Then you have officially entered Development Hell until and unless the greenlight for the first season comes. Please keep your hands and feet in the car until the ride is over. ;-)

So basically where it stands is this: this is not a mere misreading of fanbase sentiment supporting a Mystik Spiral spinoff. However, this is not anything we should count on either. Letter writing campaigns and online petitions would be counter-productive at this juncture and would actually HURT the chances of the show being considered. I suppose our options at this point are to pray, light a candle, send good vibes or whatever way you ask Higher Intelligence to send help. Just to remind the Pagans among us: any attempt to force the will of Graden et alia at MTV is considered BLACK MAGICK and will screw up your Karma threefold.

I guess the take-home message is this: there is hope here, but don't get your hopes TOO high.

It's a rhetorical question, I know, and I don't expect an answer along the lines of "Company X will probably do the job." It's just something to make you go "hmmmmmm..."

Why on earth would letter writing campaings, etc, hurt the chances of the show? Do TV execs actually want to put on TV people hate and ignore what people like? (I've always suspected that but I mostly thought I was just being paranoid)

A bird in the hand, and all that...for example, it seems that, as I write this, the tactical focus needs to be on getting more _pressings_ of "Is if Fall Yet?" done, much less the entire series...that's strategy. A new series? Well, sure, that'd be nice. More than nice. But Daria already exists, and is (we hope) carefully stored in a vault somewhere in, if not Times Square, New Jersey.
