It starts with the Fashion Club watching a Fashionvision charity event on TV in the Morgendorffer living room. They're interrupted by Helen, talking on the phone with her sister Rita. It seems Erin's marriage (from "I Don't") is breaking up - Erin nevert loved him and only married him because he'd given her herpes and she didn't think anyone else would have her. Upon hearing this, Helen bemoans Erin's "outmoded ideas about sex", but then asks Quinn in alarm whether Tom might be in Daria's bedroom. Quinn doesn't know ("I'm not J. Edgar Winter" :-) ). Helen gives Quinn the phone and runs upstairs to check on Daria. Quinn tells Aunt Rita that certainly Erin should divorce her husband; after all, he's short.

Hmmm.

The ostensible subject of this episode is Daria submitting a short story for publication. No sign of that in the clip.

Does anyone know more about this episode?

Having read the book (the English translation, anyway), I hope that the title of episode #505 is the ONLY resemblance (sp?) to the novel -- unless Tom & Daria start engaging in S&M in that padded room . . .

I keep hearing this and keep wondering, why do people seem to believe that her increased ability to do schoolwork is somehow going to magically turn a 16 and a half year old girl into a fully matured adult who's a faunt of worldly wisdom? (I find myself asking a similar question when I see fanfics that have Daria telling Trent she likes him and less than 24 hrs later they're having sex.)

Quinn has matured a lot over the past few years (as has Daria), but she still has a ways to go before becoming an adult. Just like every other teenager.

The question isn't whether Quinn is a fully-mature adult and a faunt (fount?) of worldly widsom. The question is whether she can be even a semi-mature teenager who uses the brainpower she has. "Divorce him because he's short" is pretty pathetic, especially since she overheard her mother describe the real reason Erin married her husband.

You have to start somewhere on the road to maturity. Actually taking the responsibility to do your homework when in the past you blew it off is a beginning.... Just like opening up to a guy who likes you.

Well, we didn't expect this to happen overnight. It's all about the little things. In Fat Like Me she goes out of her way to help Sandi, someone she knew didn't like her that much or had her best interests at heart.

Mature into what is the question. The big mistake is to assume that maturity is a single plain to which we all aspire. Having said that, I wonder when Jake will get there...?

Hmmm. I hadn't thought of that - the scene being part of Daria's story.

Though Quinn really just seems like her old self to me in this scene. Just last week in FLM, she twice participated in a unanimous vote to ban prospective FC members with "stubby fingers".
