Okay, I'm totally prepared for this post to be ignored or slammed or whatever, but I feel the time has come to ask of you a question.

This NG has totally become something I could never have imagined. I feel like I have friends to talk to 24/7, somewhere where people don't get fed up when I talk constantly about Daria. I totally thought when I joined this NG That you know, 'Hey I'll check it once a day, talk to people or whatever' but now I find myself reading and responding to posts whenever I have the time. And I'm not only 'talking to people or whatever' I'm sharing my veiws and learning a hell of a lot from people who intelligently challenge me, make me laugh out loud (to the extent where my roomates are getting scared), and are just great people I am too fortunate to meet.

but now the question: Am I 'one of you' yet? Have I been accepted into the holiness that is alt.tv.daria?

just wondering...

I wasn't sure if I wanted to respond but here goes:

I have to ask the same question myself. For two years, I've been here, in this big city we call Dariaville in the state of the internet. I've done a lot to contribute to everyone from here and beyond the newsgroup. Fanfics, makeovers, sounds, songlists, a few tidbits here and there, and even a fantasy pro-wrestling league where the cast can beat each other senseless (One year and counting), but eventually, even the nicest guy has a few dozen fits here and there. I can see why I was banned from #Daria+. If I was some other OP who was there, I'd probably have banned me too. For several months now, I've got on the ball and got my act together. But as strange as it sounds, I can't move on until I can finally turn the page on this chapter.

Buds (you know who you are), if you can hear me. I'm sorry about everything. I know I've done wrong, but I want to make things right again. Please let me come home.

Before it all started, I made a promise. I promised that I would try to make the first Daria video game. In a way, I've fulfilled that promise. It's not exactly a commercial-style game, but it's a good enough start. So far, I've made a Tileset for Kyodai Mahjongg 9.4 (The game is free to download at www.kyodai.com), as soon as I can find the time to do so, I'll provide a link. I also made a theme for a Tetris/mIRC client called Tetrinet. It's a 6-player Tetris client for windows and linux. The theme is already available for download (Along with the actual program) at www.tetrinet.net . Last but not least, for those with a Sony Playstation and/or a Nintendo 64, check out the Daria wrestling site I mentioned earlier at http://www.wvinter.net/~cws/LHWF/Enter.html. You might be surprised as to what I've done. :-)

I'm experimenting with some source code at the moment, but when I'm done, I'll have a fighitng game with Daria and crew inside. I know it's not what Matthais has been working on, but it'll a good enough alternative.

I'm sorry I don't get to say much here, but I've been pretty busy and all. Juggling a few fanfics, two jobs, a Computer Programming course, a website, and a few pet projects have been leaving me with little time for chit-chat. :-) I'll see you later.

It's funny, I'd never heard of sugar highs or candy hangovers until I watched My So-Called Life and Beavis & Butthead. I wonder if this is a purely American phenomenon. If so perhaps it's a psychological thing.

My understanding was that increased energy levels due to sugar consumption were negated within minutes by the production of insulin which brought blood sugar levels back to normal. In fact I'd heard that you could actually end up with depressed blood sugar levels from eating sugar due to the sudden influx causing an over-reaction by the body. Hence athletes tend to eat something that gives a sugar/carbohydrate mix such as bananas for maximum instant energy, and then only in small quantities at a time.

Or does sugar have some psychedelic effect that I'm unaware of?

Well, turned out there were only about a dozen entries, and a couple of them had an incorrect word count...

So. Here 'tis. I'd either say how great I thought it was, or how re-reading it makes me cringe, but... Ehhh... [shrug]

All I will say is, after playing this character for a long time, they've become my favourite so far, and it doesn't do them justice.

Junji "Abunai" Agatamori, Bodyguard.
-------------------------------------

Genetically he is Nihonjin, but his outlook is Western.

As a child, healthy. In his youth, a yakuza. Now, a bodyguard.

A windfall gets him the best body that money can buy! Maito Gai!

In his cyborg shell harder, faster, stronger than mere human flesh!

Synthetic coating of vat grown skin means Junji looks young forever.

World is full auto. But a revolver has class; magnum is stylish.

Vices: two. See him drink Sukotchi-Rokusu while smoking Camels.

A sullen loner, but as nominal leader he protects his team.

Depression hits him. What place for Junji in this Cyberpunk future?

Notes: Maito Gai = lit. "Dynamite Guy" Sukotchi-Rokusu = Scotch on the Rocks.

Winning stuff kicks ass at the time, but then it gradually feeds parental ambition, to the point where you go into a self destructive cycle of epic proportions, figuring that if you're trying really hard and you can't live up to expectations, what what happen if you didn't work at all..... I did that last year :P Oh, do I seem to be going on about this? No, I've just finally got something to be REALLY pissed off about - To whit my dad saying he'll be "quite pleased" if I get 2 A*s in the 2 subjects I'm taking a year early (One of which I'm not even good at) and "bloody pissed off" If I don't. I mean, it's not like he's given me ANY support :P So, I'm taking the oppunity to post a really bitchy annoyed post :)

Well, there really isn't a committee to handlle these sorts of questions. Hm... how would one go about setting up a test for "one of us-ness?" I know! We could vote on it! (Grins, ducks, and runs.) Seriously, though, you've been here long enough and contributed enough to the good weirdness that is ATD, that I'd sure consider you to be "one of us," whatever that entails.

I know what you mean about ATD, though-- it's hard to skip a day of it-- not only because you have to read another 100 messages, but also because so many of the messages are well-reasoned and insightful. ;-)

Hey, I wanna know if I'm "one of you" too! Considering that I've only made my debut fairly recently :) And not to mention I haven't received any fresh fish either! Well.. that might be a good thing.

Don't worry wicka, you're in good hands here :) Plenty of good folks in this here NG :) And I myself check the NG several times a day. For example, I check frantically every Monday morning to see if Mike Quinn has posted his review yet. IMO, season 3 wasn't officially over until he posted that final post.

And if someone will sponsor my tickets, I'll join the group who's going over to England for the final airing of Daria :)

May alt.tv.daria live beyond that final episode, and forever in our hearts.

Did I gross anyone out yet? :)

Yes, you've made it. Your trophy & secret decoder ring will arive in 3-5 bussiness days.

(Being sarcastic, I haven't recieved my secret decoder ring yet, either)

Hmm no way could I afford to do that. You could all come to Pittsburgh, then I would take you to a point High atop MT. Washington and promise you that all you see will be yours if you only fall down and worship me. Or you could just crash in our basement (tell my wife your some relatives of mine)

(The nice thing about Biblical humor on this NG is that at least 2 people will get the joke. The dreaded "Dennis Miller factor" sets in!)

I think hazing can also be referred to as "initiation," that thing which really "exclusive clubs" do to torture new initiates, to test them, I suppose. Making them drink huge amounts of alcohol (occasionally resulting in alcohol poisining, unfortunately) is something many of the greek fraternities do. A certain group of US Marines had a particularly nasty form of "hazing" which made the national media a few years ago.
