It is, isn't it? When you can't get a fix of new episodes for six months or more, then dammit, make your own! And I don't think that ANYONE is (or will be) in the same league as C.E.; the guy simply ain't human. <grin>
Here's mine, FWIW. I liked the Scrooge-like aspect of this story, where the cynical, emotionally detached Daria thaws a little thanks to an unexpected -- and ironic -- source. ("I don't like kids. I didn't even like kids when *I* was a kid.") I've got a soft spot for stories that show Daria's humanity, something that is sorely lacking in other stories (or else is redirected to the tired and overused Daria/Trent cliche).
In a more general sense, though, I like stories that explore aspects of the characters that are different from what we know and expect. Your story is one; another is "A Day in the Life of Stacy", which puts forth the theory that Stacy is a lot smarter than she appears, but whose intelligence is beaten into submission by her need to fit in and to be popular.
