I emailed the bastards, wonder if I'll get a reply... Email goes as follows:

To: Subject: Daria: Censorship or complete annihilation?

I'm curious to if somebody has a logical explaination to some of the cuts Noggin has made to the Daria episodes while airing them, not to mention the movies. Some of these cuts are so drastic that often times the entire meaning of the surrounding conversation is lost, not to mention the hack job on some of the cuts that is painfully obvious.

I understand some of the language censorship; this is not what I'm writing about. I'll include some examples of cuts that probably shouldnt be.

One of the great examples is the first movie, Is It Fall Yet? I can put up with things like you editing 'freaking' and 'you suck', but this type of edit hurts the plot. Let me note the censorships are placed in parenthesis:

easier for my friend if she hadn't kept everything bottled up inside. You know, if she'd had someone to talk to.

shut up, or paid someone else to deal with her because they were too busy "listening to their souls."

friend(, maybe they should try buddying up to the people they brought into the damn world, who never asked to be born. )

Now, this hurts the story, not to mention the cut was really inappropriate since the lines no longer make sense! The removal of Alison was also pretty harsh and made Jane seem shallow.

Another example of a plot-diminishing cut in IIFY:

it?

perpetual identity crisis, questioning everything I said and did.

making your jokes, being Jane Lane.

Now, it doesn't come as a suprise that you even censored the episode about censoreship, but, you were even hypocritical in this one. In the episode Arts 'N Crass you removed the line "And tell the truth about how much it can suck"; however, "The system sucks" was left intact. Mind explaining this?

I could go on but I've proven my point. You don't even air Daria until the middle of the night, and you censor it to such a degree that it becomes meaningless; how could you honestly consider this reasonable? Perhaps Noggin wasn't the right network for this show, but this is wrong.

Finally, I'd like to ask: Why is it rated TV:PG/L? It originally aired without this horrid censorship as TV:PG.

I hope they reply. Promise you'll post if they do... Maybe I should write to them, cuz technically i'm sort of a noggin-wave Daria fan. I had seen a rerun of "Fire" during which they advertised for 'IICY?' , and i decided i didn't want to get pulled into a series that was ending the next week, and i was soo excited when noggin said they were going to air it. THEN i find out that im getting CENSORED eps! I feel cheated really

That one isn't as bad as some of the ones I've seen lately. They're getting worse, too. Be prepared with a bottle of Pepto-Bismol if you want to keep watching on Noggin.

That was an awesome scene. It disgusts me that they tore that much out of it. Jane's wise cracks give the entire scene purpose.

Noggin sucks. :P

Not to mention that during the first few episodes (and sometimes now as well) I've seen them keep the TV-PG (not the small one but ENLARGED) on the screen THE ENTIRE TIME. It's like "we get the point already".

Hey, it's an MTV network... I think they should have a say in this. I hope it's not them that's making these gut-wrenching decisions here...

that might not be so bad...then maybe MTV2 might pick up Daria and LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE!

Any network that picks it up is almost certainly going to cut it for syndication length, like any other show. The cuts might be less annoying, though. Cuts for time would probably take out entire scenes, instead of chopping up dialogue like Noggin is doing. I'd think it'd be tough to cut an animated, dialogue-driven show like Daria without losing something important; there's not a lot of fat to trim.

Hey, I'd rather they rate it TV-MA and leave it alone. Or have like a little warning before it starts, like on South Park. Something like:

"Daria" contains mild language and mature themes* and may be inappropriate for children under 13 (14, 15, whatever). Parental discretion is advised.

Is that so hard? I could even design it for them for free!

~LEXI *Keep in mind mature themes not only means sex, but drugs, alcohol, gambling etc. I figured it fit better than "adult themes" which usually implies sex, and lots of it!

Because put plainly, Daria isnt above a PG rating.. Period.. South park has more of a complete lack of a storyline and gets most of it's viewers from the language and sexual references.
