Yep, you heard right. At school I don't talk much and people always ask me, How come you never talk, how come you never smile, are you sad, etc. I HATE IT! That's why i love the show Daria, because I can totally relate. Although it's not totally realistic, it is in a lot of ways.BTW, does anyone know when the new episodes are coming out>?Thanx 4 reading this

Might I ask how old you are? I got the same think in junior high. I was always asked, "Why don't you ever talk very much?" My answer was always, "Because I don't have much to say." I didn't think I had much to say that was of value (and neither did any of my peers, for that matter, but I figured I was the only one with sense enough to keep my mouth shut). To this day, I have yet to find a 11-14 year old with something of worth to say. Most of it is boasting and putting others down, in my experience.
As Daria put it, "I don't like kids. I didn't even like them when I was a kid." I said the very same thing. I didn't even like me when I was a kid. But, I'm okay now.
Oh, so you're one of those misery chicks, always on about how it's a miserable world, so people won't notice you're a loser... :)

You think you got it bad, my sister is Quinn.
Today she hogged the bathroom, depleted 10 cubic meters of ozone with all the aerosols she just had to use to look cute. Then I got to drive her to work (because buses are for common people). All the way she made nasty remarks about the people she works with, and then when we got there she had me stop 200 yards away from the building. (I guess my car is too common for her to be seen in it).
Anyone else got any "Daria" relatives?

My younger sister and I are not-bad stand-ins for Daria and Quinn. To be fair, my sister has had her share or problems and is pretty nice, but she was also the essentially cheerful popular girl (cheerleader!) and I was the outsider who got asked all the time why he looked depressed (which, when asked when I wasn't depressed, would only depress me).

None that come to mind, but I have an aunt that reminds me of Ms. Gupty. She has her kids' day all planned out for them in a complicated schedule. The older one likes to read, but he's not allowed more than x hours a day because he's forced to play soccer for x hours a day, etc., etc. Actually, he reminds me of Evan of "That Was Then, This is Dumb". The other one has been much more successfully brainwashed. We went vacationing together recently, and I tried to bug Aunt Ms. Gupty at every available opportunity. I wanted to bring the "Pinch Sitter" episode along, and watch while she was in the room, but I brought a different Daria tape by accident. Just watching Daria bothered her enough anyway ("We can't get that show where we live, can we?"..."Oh, you're not watching that show, are you?"). I also irked her by teaching the younger one to play poker for Skittles, harmless though that was.

I can sympathise with you there. I don't talk or smile either. I have been told I look like Daria......but I got contact lenses this morning so I guess that spoils it. I'm not like Daria personality-wise at all, though, apart from the not talking to people and not smiling thing. I don't bother with sarcastic remarks, I find "fuck off" to be much more effective in most cases. You have to talk to people on their level, you see, else they don't get it. :)

What a tragedy! But wait, this means you can wear sunglasses now! You should immediately go out and buy a pair of big round Daria-style sunglasses. Mirrored ones would be good to wear at school, they'll hide the red watery eyes you get whilst getting used to your lenses.

I always thought mirrored contacts would look nice. A friend of mine got two pairs of contacts, one clear and one set tinted blue. He'd wear the blue one in his right eye in the morning (his regular eye color was brown). After lunch he'd switch and wear the blue one in his left eye. He said if people weren't quick enough on the uptake to notice, then they weren't worth knowing. Course he was pretty much a lonely guy.

In The Man Who Fell To Earth, David Bowies has yellow cat's eyes ones that give him slit-like pupils. They would be fun to have. (Of course his character in the film is supposed to have such eyes naturally and wears contacts that give him human-looking eyes.)

Didn't Peter Gabriel used to wear mirrored contact lenses as part of the stage theatrics back when he was still in Genesis?
If they're those sort of full-eye contacts, no they *wouldn't* be fun to have. Full-eye contacts like special film makeup people use are supposed to hurt like hell!

Great flick. I love the scene where he's watching that bank of TVs and screams something along the lines of, "Why do you call it television? It doesn't tell you anything!".

Oh I know those feelings well enough. Last year I went through much of the same thing, and am still going through it. I'm the school out caste, ot ,atleast, don't belong with the rest of my school. I dont' get invited to parties, have yet to go out with anyoen(a real problem in my midn..hard beign a Romantic idealist and all with TIS one holding over your head ;)) Anyway, all last year I was increadibly paranoid, was stuch in a one sided realtionship, by which I mena I loved the person, and she didn't really care :). This year, although I've still not lost my cynical edge, or wit, I have been gettign along better, lost the paranioa and such. I still can be one of the few in my school to boast really CARRING about soem issues atleast. Ya, Daria is a GREAT show, allows us to vent, to understand and to laugh at. My mother is also a fan of the show for that matter, ever sicne I showed her "cafe Disafacto(?)" and agrees with msot of them essage given forth. One thing I still laugh at is people who are the preps, and jocks of the school watching Daria" and saying "ya I know jsut how she feels, I'm EXACTLY like that". to which I always say "ummmm..ya...RIGHT." so still got the edge :)
