Actually, would it be bad to say that tonight I didn't actually *stay* for the closing credits? Just something I felt I needed to do seeing as though Dad was there watching and everything...besides, I had to run back to the computer so I could finish doing as much as I could do tonight...early to bed night tonight as I have to wake up REALLY early tomorrow morning and thusly I can't stay up till 2 a.m. as I normally do.
Dad seemed to like "Daria", though. I think I might just get him to like it. Would be easier without all those stupid ads they show on MTV though. Like...the ones for "All Access" or "Total Access" or something..."like, gag me with a spoon".

Just to let everyone know there is at least one showing of Daria where they do not massacre the credits by talking over them. Yep you guessed it the early morning Sunday broadcast. I am basing this on the Lane Miserable broadcast (I watched every broadcast and thoroughly enjoyed it each time) I refuse to have to record an episode of Daria that is not as the creators designed/performed it. It just lessons the perfection of "Daria."

Basically, MTV went downhill ever since the Summer of 1994 (The exact time Headbanger's Ball was cancelled), since then, the balance of power was shifted, and the teeny-boppers took over. Now, you can't look at MTV for two seconds without wanting to down a bottle of sulfuric acid. I don't want to piss anyone off here (But it's not like I have a choice), but it's a miracle that Daria is even on, what with the way the rest of the channel is.
I remember the good-ole' days when MTV actually meant Music Television. Now it's nothing but pointless TV shows dedicated to baby pop culture and videos. The only thing I find cute about Britany Spears are her initials. Blame Game? You know, this was actually cool when it was called Jerry Springer. The Real World, in a two-million-dollar beach house. Yeah sure, the real world, uh huh. Road Rules? The only day I'll ever watch that show is when they nod off at the wheel and drive off a cliff into a ravine. And explosions, 'gotta have explosions! Celebrity Deathmatch, not a bad show, but it lost my respect when they brought in the Time Machine. Somebody call Dr Who. TRL? Why don't we just rename this show to "Crappy Videos & the People that Love Them"
Daria is the only hope for this channel to regain its stance in society (REAL society, not the mainstream media), provided she doesn't become passe like her predacessors (I know that's misspelled, but I don't have enough time to find a dictionary).

I have recently taken up watching the MTV overnight program (the one that actually plays videos, and even some variety) and I am amazed how much better I like it than about 90% of what is on MTV during the rest of the day. I watched it almost every night and would always check with it before going to another channel if VideoFlow or similar was on (as it almost always is the case). It amazed me just how controlled and limited MTV seemed to be compared to MuchMusic. MTV never seems to leave the Top 40 (or less) except for overnights. MuchMusic was willing to take a risk on something that wasn't necessarily already popular.
Also, did anyone watch "Wannabe a VJ 2"? I think it was EXTREMELY obvious that MTV did not want another Jesse on its hands. Notice how much MTV has done for him. He got a record deal and one or two showings of his video on TRL. Whoop de do! ;)
Even though I don't get it anymore, his video is probably on MuchMusic more than MTV. Just a guess.
Even MTV overnight reminds me of a Top 40 station on automation without anyone spinning those videos. I think they could get a lot of people who would be willing to do overnights, even if segments were recorded during the day in advance. It doesn't have to be a known personality - let someone get discovered. Let "VJ wannabes" have an air shift or two.
Anyway, to get back on topic: Thank God that Daria is there - now if only someone who can think would listen.

At the risk of dating myself, I remember when MTV first debuted. It was weird, it was different, it was great! They did nothing but play videos, and you'd see all kinds of different stuff. My musical tastes wound up taking directions I never dreamed of.
But nowadays with all the talk shows, game shows, and TV shows, you can hardly see a video it seems like--and it seems you always see the same exact ones. Bor-ring. I can only take so much of Mariah Carey and Shania Twain. (Given that I care for neither artist's music in the first place.)
I really wish that they'd dump all the crap they've got on there and go back to playing videos. (Daria would be the one exception to this rule.)

I would actually like to see MTV Networks start an ATV channel...all animation, all the time. Sort of a twisted Cartoon Network with everything from old Terrytoons cartoons (Viacom owns the entire Terrytoons library) to the Nicktoons to MTV Oddities and Aeon Flux and of course Daria. Yes, but you have the monetary power, right? I don't think 35 is old. Certainly, to tell you the truth, even in my Duran Duran discussion groups there are maybe four people over the age of 33 and they're pretty much all in their 40s and 50s, but 35 certainly isn't old. You still have 15 years left before you start qualifying for the AARP, even, and they'll take just about *everybody*. (waves AARP mailer addressed to self in the air) Besides, I think it's cool that you'd be considered "too old for MTV", because I'm still in their prime age audience (the under 21s) and I *hate* it, having to be associated with all those morons. Of course I get to say that I'm only 3 years older than Daria herself, but that point is moot when you see the screaming idiots who actually *like* what they see all the time on MTV (not just the videos -- the stupid "Road Rules", "Real World", "Blame Game", "Lovelines", "Say What? Kareoke", all that summer crap, etc.)

And at some cafes the staff spit in your food but it doesn't mean you have to put up with it.
It is wholly unacceptable that TV networks are increasingly controlled by imbeciles. Where do they get them all from and what have they done with all the competent people who used to work in TV, that's what I worry about.
There's an old saying: "good taste costs no more". In fact for tv networks, the good taste alternative is actually cheaper - if they ran the whole show and then ran the trailers/announcements sequentially afterwards, they would fill up an extra minute or two of air time at no extra cost.

You know, I was thinking about this and wondering why this sounded a bit familiar, then I went back to my old Tiger mailings (Tiger: Tiger-List, the oldest Duran Duran mailing list out there) and I saw how the same complaint was being issued about VH-1's airing of the DD "Behind the Music"...where there were some final comments being made by a few interviewees during the broadcasting of the closing credits, but you couldn't hear the final comments because of the inane comments being made by the VH-1 announcer guy about the stupid Divas Live thingie that was going 'round at the time. "TV Guide" even commented on how you could barely see the caption with the names of the interviewees during the regular broadcast time because of the stupid Divas Live announcement thingie that was permanently affixed to the lower right hand corner of the screen. "TV Guide" "jeered" VH-1 about that.
*sigh*...now VH-1's going down the drain...is there nothing MTV Networks *won't* take with it in its descent to hell?
