We're not having any flamewars, which cuts down. alt.books.kurt-vonnegut has surpassed our traffic because we have a big personal fight going on with this guy who called the conservatives Nazis and Klansmen

Or we could just have random shouts of "Look! Another Charlie!" and "Ying tong iddle i po!"

May depend on the program, but some images just don't convert successfully i.e. a heavily detailed gif will come out looking like like a mess. The only 'manipulation' i did to Jane was to invert her ascii image, which looked clearer. Gifscii's mac program, but I'm sure there are similar programs for Windows out there.

Fixed fonts differ. What you, as an ASCII artist, see on your screen is not necessarily what someone else will see on their screen. The characters differ in weight and size and that will materially affect the "color" of areas where you use different characters. It might be helpful to specify what font you're using. Back when I first encountered ASCII art you had no choice for fonts.

Hey, I *like* pigeons! Carrier pigeons have done their duty time and time again for America during wars. Here's a game for all you inner-city dwellers; it's called "The Pigeon Foot Game".

Score 5 points if you see a pigeon missing toes from one foot.

Score 10 points if it's missing toes from both feet, or if one of it's feet is a gnarled stub.

Score 20 points if both it's feet are gnarled stubs.

Optional: Score 5-20 points for each roadkill pigeon you see, depending on how much is still left. A single bit of wing would only get 5 points, while a whole carcass scores the full 20. Summer is usually a high scoring period, because they tend to collapse from heat exhaustion, instead of being run over.
