I think the strangest one I ever read at the time (I haven't read any fanfics in almost four years) was my own Kain/Daria series after the crappy ending I didn't really think through. I printed it out on paper, read through it (And took it on trips with me just to keep reading), and thought to myself "I wrote this crap?". Of course, that's why you now see an unfinished "Special Edition" on fanfiction.net. The first time I was rushing words out, misspelling and even forgetting key words like "the", "or", and "Daria".

I never had any time to sit down, think things through and finish it. To me, that's really strange, since I was taking readers down the roads no one wanted to go, one would think there was an ending somewhere (It's been four years, and "Daria 2000" is still in rough draft hell). :-P

My basic problem with it is that it's a Lynn story, not a Daria story. Lynn is unquestionably the main driver of events, the star, the one in the spotlight. And I don't like her. I find her spiteful, hypersensitive, overreactive, mean, and borderline psychotic. There are times when she seems to have no conscience or remorse whatsoever. Therefore, I find it hard to like her story. But I also don't think it's the spawn of hell - there's certainly plenty of stuff that's a lot worse (Ronin).

But, good or bad, it wore out its welcome around "Season 4" when the whole mafia thing was introduced. It's kind of like bringing an adorable 6-year-old into a lagging sitcom to give it a kick in the pants, which in turn is like putting a terminally ill, 110-year-old man on life support. Sometimes it's better just to let it go rather than take heroic measures to save it.

There are other series, such as "Driven Wild Universe" and "Electronic Alchemy" that are consistently better. Find them on Martin J. Pollard's Outpost Daria under the names Kara Wild and Alchemist, respectively.

Oh, and feel free to read my stuff while you're at it... ;)

Maybe not gushing praise, but it does deserve praise. It's a good series.

Lynn is a tough character to like sometimes, I agree - she can be very nasty, even to people who are supposedly her closests allies. I have a little trouble with the view that it's a Lynn story; if anything, it becomes an ensemble piece, though there are indeed some episodes where Lynn is pushed to the forefront, at the cost of other characters.

I dunno about that...I liked that angle, though I'm a little leary about the idea that it was 'dealt with' by the beginning of Season 5. It was an interesting touch at best, and at worst, a questionable experiment.

And we don't like to self-promote, now do we? :P
