What do we watch?

I was just looking over what other Daria fans list as the newsgroups they read and noticed a lot were about tv shows. So I'm wondering what everyone here likes to watch (besides Daria, cause if you didn't watch her you wouldn't be here).

Well, I'll admit to a few guilty pleasures <g>, but the list goes a little like this.... although it varies due to available videotape and viewing time...

Daria (Duh.) Sifl & Olly (Rock!) Celebrity Deathmatch (Yeah, I know it's cliche-- so what?) The Crocodile Hunter (Who's crazier? Steve, or his wife, Terri? It's a toss-up, I guess.) The Daily Show Ben Stein's Money UCB South Park Frasier Caroline in the City (Guilty Pleasure.) Just Shoot Me (More Guilty Pleasure.) Whose Line Is It Anyway (The Original One with Clive...) Kids In the Hall (I wish I could be more like Bellini...) Beavis & Butt-Head (Very Guilty Pleasure.) The Furniture Guys -- Either show-- Great Schtick. Cartoon Sushi (Wake me when they get new eps...) Star Truck Voyager (10-4) Dexter's Laboratory Old Scooby-Doo Ok, ok, and the very occasional Loveline (Fun to watch when you want to feel normal... and esp. after dumping/being dumped. <g>) (Extremely Guilty Pleasure.)

Oooh! I almost forgot-- when I'm at my friend's place (he's got the DSS) -- We catch the old Match Game ("I said 'buns!'"-- Charles Nelson Reilly). <vbg>

Yeah, there sure are a lot of toons up there. I guess it's because that's where I usually find some of the most cutting-edge stuff being done. Weird, ain't it?

Well, after thinking about what I like, the curmudgeon inside of me came out, and I came up with the following list. Don't take it personally if your show is on it. Hell, I watch Loveline, fer cryin out loud. :)

What I wouldn't be caught dead watching, unless I died with the TV on....

Ally McBeal (Calista Flockhart gets on my nerves-- she's sooo overdramatic, and the last thing I want to watch after a day of dealing with lawyers is a show about lawyers who can't deal. Yuck.) Mercy Point ('They threw two darts-- one hit the word "space," the other hit the word "hospital."' -- Paul F. Tompkins.) Anything with Geraldo, Gerry Spence, or any other lawyer who sold out for TV. Home Improvement (One day, you too will wonder why you thought Tim Allen was funny...) 90210 or Melrose -- Why watch it? You know it's like crack... why even even bother? :) Dawson's Creek or Anything else on WB (Even tho my bro-in-law does some work for the show-- it doesn't mean it doesn't suck.) (So I guess I'd have to die while in mid-surf. <g>) Suddenly Susan (Just Shoot Me. <g> Scratch that-- just shoot the writers.)

I will agree with you in that Suddenly Susan is no worse-written than the average sitcom, but that ain't sayin' much.

• Maggie Wingers - trying it out.

Oh, yeah, I love the music on Match Game-- it brings back a ton of memories, most of which involve me being home from school, sick, eating soup and crackers, and watching 'Match Game,' and wondering what was so darn funny about buns, anyway. They were just rolls for burgers, right? :)

And who can forget Brett Somers, Richard Dawson, and Charles Nelson Reilly, too? *That* was darn funny for a game show. The funniest part, though, is that for some sick, sad reason, all of the clothes that they wore are almost back in style again. :P

My taste in TV is rather...let's say...eclectic.

There's sitcoms, which range from extremely broad British humor ("Are You Being Served?", "Fawlty towers") to the more sophisticated ("Taxi", "The Bob Newhart Show").

Then I'm into game shows (I'm ready for my abuse, Mr. DeVille), in particular, "The Price is Right" and "Win ben Stein's Money".

And we move onto cartoons, of which I enjoy "The Simpsons", and "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist".

And I'm also a big fan of the rather unclassifyable "Mystery Science Theater 3000".

I probably watch too much TV. (red lights flash *UNDERSTANTEMENT ALERT!* *UNDERSTATEMENT ALERT!*)

Other than Daria, I watch on a regular basis (not counting news and sports programming, or the Weather Channel):

The Simpsons King of the Hill Dawson's Creek -- I just started watching this a few weeks ago and now I'm getting hooked...and I'm 36 years old...isn't that illegal? :) South Park Friends Frasier Pinky & The Brain (plus that new series with Elmyra, which is inferior to the original) The New Batman-Superman Adventures

On a lighter note.... go to the bottom of the Dwyer page and click on index. the rest of the site features some amusing moments in british television including the infamous interview with the Sex Pistols. Another is an interview between Clive Anderson (host of Whose Line is it Anyway) and the Bee-Gee's. Clive asks a few questions, makes some insulting comments and they all walk out on him after 3 questions.

It was probably '83 or '84. It was after my oldest son was born, but before the younger one (I think). This is one of the problems with parenthood: for the first couple years of your kids' lives, you're psychotic (in the psychiatric sense: separated from reality). I can't really pinpoint *anything* that happened between 1983 and 1987. Oh, well...

Anyway, one of the Pittsburgh stations showed the whole thing the first time, too. They apologized that night. I haven't seen the footage: I don't want to. I've dealt with similar situations a few too many times already over the past 22 years, and I'm in no rush to see any more.

I get Daria on DSS DirecTV and I noticed the sound was missing just as soon as the show started. After the sound came back I noticed several very short sound dropouts throughout the show. There was also a black sawtooth-edged area cutting into the picture periodically. I've seen that particular fault several times before. Not a good day for taping.

There were video artifacts of this sort during the last airing of "Cafe Disaffecto."

One hopes that they can strike new dubs of the masters...unless the numbnuts at MTV are using the MASTERS as airing copies. I wouldn't put it past them.

I think the originals are acutually kept on celluloid, not tape. (I remember seeing someone working at a film editing bay, and seeing them actually edit the show on celluloid.) So, all it would mean is going back to the shop and remastering the video with the original film.

And when I get tired of that: Whatever's on MTV (unless it's Real World or one of its many spinoffs) Whatever's on Cartoon Network (hey, it's got only FIVE minutes of commerercials to the half hour! Mainly 'cause Ted Turner's got money crawling out of his ears and CN doesn't have Demographs(r) like MTV has) Whatever's on VH1 (unless it's Women First or Legends) Whatever's on Nickelodeon (unless the show has come out within the last three or four years) The Simpsons (when I remember) MTV Animation, when it's on (thank you MTV for moving Daria to 3 PM! Now I can watch it after school)

my all time favorite shows besides daria are the simpsons, space ghost, ren and stimpy, news radio, and the adventures of pete and pete.

i thinnk i'm the only person in the world that remembers pete and pete... i especially loved the ones that focused on older pete.. he always seemed cooler to me.

Also noteworthy about the show is that Iggy Pop played one of the neighborhood kid's fathers. And, REM's Michael Stipe played a beach-side ice cream vendor in one episode. Other famous actors that have been on the shhow include: Adam West as the principal of little Pete's school Jeanne Garafalo (pardon the spelling, im sure it's not correct) as a teacher at older pete's school L.L. Cool J as a teacher at little pete's school Steve Buschemi as Ellen's dad

Oh, definitely. Li'l Pete was just an attempt to round up a younger audience. Li'l pete's "coolness" was sort of forced.

The Simpsons (not as deep as Daria, but I still get a BIG kick out of it!..living on reruns on FOX....old ones kick)

Saturday Night Live (more comedy! This show is pretty decent for a good laugh when you're alone on Saturday night.)

Felicity (okay sue me...I don't like Dawson's Creek, but for some reason I really like this show!)

I don't watch much tv other then that!

though I do catch a bunch of shows when they're on.....When I lived in the Phila suburbs, I would watch Daily News Live (Mike Quinn's watched shows) too..but only to see if someone I know from the paper was there..so far I saw 2 of the people I met from the Daily News---John Smallwood--and Elemer Smith.
