Hello, fellow cynicalists

Hello there, new to the group and just wanted to say hi and look forward to discussion. anyone else from the midwest?

I'm from Illinois, and would like to welcome you.

On the other hand, I'd like to say I resent the fact that Daria and her fans are labeled "cynicalists". We simply don't fall for the dillusions other people place on themselves.

Oh, and Zytryx, no I'm not from the midwest. I'm from that strange and mysterious land that's not quite northeastern, not quite Middle Atlantic, not quite Appalachian, not quite midwestern, and not quite Great Lakes. It used to be "cynics" but I guess the word wasn't long enough. Syndicalists OTOH sounds like members of a syndicate. Maybe that's what we are, a Daria fan syndicate (DFS).

Sorry. I'm done now... SAT testing fried my brain. Stupid analogies... and as if it's not bad enough I have to take it in eighth grade, they had it on a Saturday. At seven in the morning. I'm tempted to quote a Daria episode, but that's waaay too close to being on topic for a.t.d...

Well, I walked over to the small, candle-lit shrine around my OED, shook a little incense over it, and thanked the Great Editor before looking up your word....

And while I was checking the OED, I ran across a few cool words-- cynanthropy-- a condition in which a man believes that he is a dog. Cynghanedd-- an intricate system of alliteration and rhyme in Welsh poetry. No cynicalist, but I did find cynicoratical-- of or pertaining to a ruling body of cynics. (I like the last one better than cynicalist, anyway.)

And then I began the search for syndicalist-- an adherent to the movement of syndicalism. Syndicalism-- a movement among industrial workers with the object of transferring control over the means of production and distribution from its present owners to unions of workers for the benefit of the workers, the method generally favored for the accomplishment of this goal being the general strike.

Or worse, a dictionary. ;-)
