Hey everybody. Here's a little poll to chase away our lack-of-Daria blues. Below are four catagories: Favorite Episodes, Favorite Closing Credit Songs and Favorite Characters. Vote for as many choices as you like in each catagory. E-mail your votes to [email] (please put "Daria" or "Poll" in the subject box). I'll post this everyday starting Aug 26 and ending Aug 31. On Sep 1 I'll post the results.

Stacy is the member of the Fashion Club with light brown hair. Some Daria fans like her, despite her being in the Fashion Club. Aunt AMy is Daria's aunt. She's basciccally an older version of Daria. Many Daria fans like her a scary amount.

Aunt Amy is, well, one of Daria's aunts (dunno about Quinn tho... what's an aunt of one's cousin? Aunt-once-removed?) She appeared in "I Don't" (S2, the wedding episode, see it if you can...) and had a brief appearance in "Through a Lens Darkly" (S3, Daria ponders a slight change in appearance. For driving.) In a lot of respects she's an older Daria.

Stacy is the highly emotional Fashion Club member, whose possible intelligence is hidden by her emotionalism and her compulsion to conform. (In other words, she could be a closet brain...)

That would still make Amy her Aunt. But if she is Daria's "cousin" by Jake's side then Quinn and Amy wouldn't be related at all.

that could be a subconscious ploy to attention and comforting--- notice the reaction of the Fashion club to her interests apart from their sparring for a few seconds at least. An expression of existential angst, on the other hand, would get her expelled from the group, something her insecurity dreads and allows her to take any action to prevent...

Yeah, but you know me ... I prefer the Occam's Razor school of character analysis. I get the feeling that if you said "existential" around Stacy, she'd say "Gesundheit." I mean, it'd be cool if she was a closet Brain, but from the evidence given, IMO, beneath that shallow veneer is just another shallow veneer. Or maybe cotton candy. ;-)

Lol... She very well might be Intellectually Disadvantaged, but I think there is more to her then meets the eye... at least where her heart(?) is concerned... she actually does seem to feel sympathetic towards others and also seems to realize, at times, anyway, just how mean Sandi usually is. I think she'd like to see Quinn as the leader. Or maybe I just feel sorry for her 'cause she gets dumped on so much...

Yes, she would. She really likes Quinn, to the point where it creeped Quinn out one episode.

I do too. In my opinion, Staci's not entirely sane ... she's at least seriously neurotic. Remember the bit in the yearbook photo album where she's tearfully confessing something to Dr. Manson, who's ignoring her? She really needs some REAL friends, not the skeevy crowd she's in with now. If Quinn matured, Quinn could be a good friend to her.

True, but I don't personally know anyone who I'd consider completely sane... so, I guess I'm safe then...

Did you notice that Emerson said that _almost_ all men have a dash of madness but that _every_ woman does. I know, I know, I'm reading too much into this... I'm not offended, I just thought it was... interesting...

I was a proponenet of the "Staci: Closet Brain" theory for quite some time, but given the past season (can't think of any examples right now... need to watch my tapes), I'm leaning toward agreeing with Rich on this. But, she did, at least, show some spark (however easily quashed) in "Daria Dance Party." She's a sophomore now, so I give her one more season. If in S4 she's not yet broken away from the controlling influence of Sandi, she's probably doomed 'till her senior year. Then, she'll either break away then, or quietly end up in a univerisity separate from the other FC members.

Personally, I think the reason so many want to think of her as a "closet brain" (myself included) is because she's cute and vulnerable. We see the way she prostrates herself before the cult of fashion, so meekly, without the inventive devotion of Quinn or the exploitive ambition of Sandi, and think she can't possibly be doing that because that's what she wants to do. And she's not mean, not in the least, unlike her "friends." So we invent ways to justify including her in "our" society, to provide a way for her to escape what appears to be her "predicament." And if there were a larger number and variety of "brains" (presently there's only Daria (the intellectual), Jane (the artist), Upchuck (the creepy nerd), Mack (the reniassance man), and Jodi (the activist). The five of them don't hang out together, generally. But if there was a sufficient number and variety, and a group of them chose to spend their breaks and lunches together, I could very easily see Staci fitting in thag group, and flourishing in the generally acceptive environment.
