Ted from "The New Kid." I think he would be good for her.

Unless it was another Trent figure. And why am I suddenly feeling like I'm talking about real people here? Ah well. Oooh, "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" by the Gap Band is on the radio...*shimmies off*).

Well...once he grows up I could see Upchuck (a) getting more mature and (b) getting more attractive. Still, you think Daria would go for him? I see him finding this really nice woman in college who makes him want to change his ways, and all the while he gets to be quite attractive. In the meantime.... Change? One of the best lessons you can learn is this-- don't try to change a guy-- you'll usually wind up frustrated and disappointed with the results. Changing someone like Upchuck would require more work that most women would want to put it (hell, it'd probably require a few hundred hours of work-- almost like Community Service, and even then, it probably wouldn't take.) Either that, or a Skinner Box, at the very least, and keeping somebody in a Skinner Box against their will over a period of months is kinda illegal.. ;-)

As I said, it was from my experience. I knew a guy in HS who had all the social skills of roadkill, and was smart as hell. He graduated with higest honors, went to med school, is married with kids, and still has all the social skills of roadkill. Come to think of it, maybe he should've done a stint in the army. ;-)
Actually, I do know a couple of people who managed to create opportunities for themselves through the armed services, but I can't say that they've dramatically changed.

<snip large argument about whether Upchuck could change for the better>
actually, whether or not Upchuck reforms or not is a moot point. In "Daria Dance Party" Daria and Jane meet 2 guys who are perfectly exceptable, until they find out they're related to Upchuck. So even if he did change, I doubt Daria would be interested. Meanwhile, no one has disputed the fact that Lerman (sp?) from "I don't" IS the perfect man for Daria.
Bob Ohler said:
Well, that was rather immature of Daria and Jane. Remember, they are likely to change as they get older too.
However, I really don't think that Upchuck is going to wind up with Daria. Merely pointing out that he's not necessarily ALWAYS going to be such a geek.
They did get along ok, that's true.

If they lived in the same area, and Daria was willing to "try something out," I could see them getting together very easily. There'd be no doubt they'd hang out together, get along well, be _seen_ getting along well, and before even they knew it, most people would assume they were an item (much like was done in "The New Kid"). Certainly Jane would give her a hard time over it. ;)
Tarvok said:
Good point. Yes, I could see this happening ... the main obstacle would have been Lerman's own passivity. He definitely seemed to like her in "I Don't", but didn't do that much to act on it.

Yeah, but that's the beauty of it. What I figure is that enough people would get this idea, and Daria would figure, "Hell, why not?" and suggest they make it official. He'd say something along the lines of, "It's probably better than eating rat poison, so we may as well." in his usual enthusiastic voice. I could actually see _Daria_ being the outgoing member of this pair. ;)

Ted would be fine. All he needs is for Brittany to help him with his voice.
Dont get me wrong, Im a TOTAL shipper, but Mack might be a good match for
her. Hes smart - PLUS he finds Kevin's and Brittany's stupidity amusing!
I also think a fling with Jesse would be cute....I'd like to see how long
she could tolerate his 5 word vocabulary.SyKoPuNk18 wrote:
Actually, I do see some promise in that. Jodie really doesn't pay much attention to Mack (or any male for that matter), so that relationship will falter...Mack hates Kevin and finds Brittany laughable (but doesn't hate her as she isn't stupid to the point of grating)...and he is quite intelligent...but I'd like to see Mack more with Jane than anything. I'm a total 'shipper, yes.
NOOOOO. That would last maybe three seconds. Daria would get fed up with his unintellectualness, and Jesse would go back to jamming with the boys or something.
Diane
his
UNINTELLECTUALNESS??? is that a word?? I could also point out that so far nothing I've seen has shown Trent to be any more ...not unintellectual. Although he does have a MUCH greater vocab.
My vote still goes to Lermen from "I don't" or Artie.

I think...and this may be a stretch...perhaps Quinn wrote those questions out for him?
I know this'll be perfect grounds for a hanging, but there is always that 10% chance that Kevin could do a complete U-Turn on his personality.
Actually, this might be a great idea for a Daria episode! Ever read that book, _Flowers for Algernon_? Kevin could be a part of an experiment in which he is given a drug that temporarily increases his intelligence and sheds his ever-present uniform for something more presentable. After all, we know Daria likes dark-haired men!
Yeah, but Ted ("The New Kid") was blond. If we're gonna hook Daria up with a dark-haired guy (other than Trent or Kevin), why not link her with Jeffy? Better still, how 'bout all of the 3 Js? She almost went out with them in "Quinn the Brain" -- how about seeing it all the way through?
