Any Daria edits in "The N" on Noggin?

I'm also posting this in alt.tv.nickelodeon. Basically, there's a Daria marathon running all this week in "The N" on Noggin. Can someone please be so kind to list any edits they've noticed (me like a dummy, didn't tape any Daria episodes, so umm...please release it on DVD, MTV.) I've noticed the shows end earlier than they used to on MTV (maybe because "The N" doesn't have 40 minute commerical breaks.)

they hacked when Jane tries on Daria's glasses. all they show is Jane saying, "hi, I'm Daria", than cut to next scene. no "go to hell" or the next line. jeeze, these teenyboppers N is targeting have heard hell and much worse. fuckers need to get their heads out of their asses

The Daria edits are confusing and screwed up. I mean, they let Jake say "Dammit!" but in 'The Big House' Andrea's two lines were cut because she says "Damn."

Here are some other ones I noticed...

'Esteemsters' -

The infamous "Nocturnal emissions." discussion. Who didn't see THAT coming?

'The Invitation' -

Like Craig said, they got rid of the "Hi, I'm Daria. Go to hell." line. Or at least the portion after "Hi, I'm Daria."

I'm pretty sure they edited the guard's lines after Jane gave him the sketchbook, but you still get the right impression.

The lines from the guy in the make-out room were cut too. *Groans* We already get the point, why get rid of that?

What really happened with Bobby Bighead was cut too, but thanks to sloppy editing sock-wise, we get what happened there also. *Applauds*

'Malled' - For whatever reason, they skipped 'Cafe Disaffecto' (DAMMIT! I love that episode.) and 'College Bored'. I guess I understand skipping Disaffecto, but 'College Bored? Jeez...

Brittany - "Would you rather do what we do? With your teammates?"

Yep, that's gone too.

The entire confusion over Mrs. Bennet's use of the word organism, Kevin and Britney making out, and Jodie's reference to the Civil Rights Movement was wiped out.

Man - "And of course, when you go to the mall, you look for what?"

Upchuck - "Bikinis! Make that lovely, luscious, ladies in bikinis!"

Kevin - "Yeah... (Brittany hits him) Ow!"

Upchuck - "Grrrl! Fiesty!"

Goooone.

Man - "I meant more along the line of the quality you look for? The stores? What should they be like?"

Brittany - "Perky, a little bouncy, not too bouncy..."

Man - "What?"

Brittany - "What?"

I didn't realize so much was cut from this episode...

Kevin's S&M reference is gone too.

Astonishingly enough, the kangaroo molestation joke in Scissors Wizard was kept, even though they could have easily cut it.

'The Lab Brat' -

You guessed it, they skipped 'This Year's Model'... Meaning I haven't seen the freaking episode since 1998, my dreams have gone unanswered. Life is pain.

Sick Sad World was cut. Astonishing.

Jake talking about his past was cut, as was Quinn asking Kevin if he thought her skirt was too short.

Okay, this one I don't understand at ALL; They got rid of Daria and Brittany thinking "Sucker." at the same time. This completely ruined the humor of the "Jerk." punch-line, and... what do they have against the word "sucker"? Yeesh.

Daria's example about a mugging victim in explaining the experiment is cut as well.

'Pinch Sitter' -

The revised song the kids sing at the end of the episode has been cut, and now all you have is the music. Lucky you, The N-viewer.

The "G-STring grandmas" part of Sick Sad World was cut. It gives you a vague idea of what's going on, but it ruins the joke.

Jake talking about the couples at the therapy session was cut, effectively removing him from the episode except for a mention at the end.

Tad - "Hitler ate sugar."

Wow, do we really have to live in a fantasy world where Hitler never existed?

The revised ending to Old Mother Hubbard MIGHT have been cut, I can't remember anymore. It's 1 AM, what do you expect?

'Too Cute' -

Took me a while to find one. The only one in this episode was Upchuck wanting to rent one of Daria's fake boobs for the weekend.

'The Big House' -

Andrea's lines during the hockey game were cut. She said "Damn." Wow, I just don't get that.

If Mr. DeMartino was smoking a cigarette, they apparently cut it but then failed to cut it from the bumper. Whoo.

That's all I saw. There some more I think I caught but I'm not sure, and there's no way in hell I'm going to search through the video I recorded the episodes on to confirm it.

All I have to say is for the love of GOD, put the uncut episodes on DVD.

Yes, particularly when they allowed Quinn to say "This sucks" in "The Big House", when she was reacting to being grounded.

Wow, I didn't realized they cut out so much. There's a Daria marathon today, too...I'll be watching and I'll try to remember if anything was cut.

Oh yes, some of the edits may have been made for time constraints...I'm not sure.

Edited Daria is better than no Daria at all, I guess. -.- I don't know why they don't let the "kids" curse...maybe it's a role model thing? Where only the adults curse and the "kids" don't? Hmm.

Oh yes, about that right-wing comment, Nickelodeon just aired a Nick News special called "My Family is Different..." You couldn't throw a rock without hitting an angry conservative e-mailing Nickelodeon ^_^

All right, I'm back, and the editing wasn't as bad this time around, except for a couple moments...

'The Road Worrier' -

First off, they completely ruined the R.E.M. video joke, which was my favorite moment in the episode. Basically, there was a caption under Daria saying "Thank god." after Trent compares the dramatic sequence to an R.E.M. video. WHY? Oh, nooo, she can't say "Thank god!" They can say damn, they can say hell, but GOD? NO! Focus on the negative, not the positive, that's The N all right. To quote a certain amazon, "Aiyaah."

They got rid of Jake's Altamont story. Of course. We don't need to educate the youth on what happened there. Let's all go to happy land where Altamont, World War Two, and anything depressing never happened! Whee!

Jane - "The cops did that to you, didn't they. Bastards."

Okay, I understand cutting "bastards", but why the whole line? I mean, are we supposed to believe that the police are all smiling, polite officers of truth and justice? Oh, yeah, we are. Another one of my personal favorite jokes dragged through the mud.

All the Jake/Helen stuff was cut out. Okay, I can live with that, but it's the principle, maaaan! ... *Cough* Well, you know.

The apparently stoned Alternapalooza-goer was pretty much cut too. Yeah, right, like The N-kiddies could put two and two together and realize he's stoned.

'The Teachings of Don Jake' -

The one I remember right off the bat was that the ending of Helen's scary story was cut. Okay, this I understand.

Quinn - "Damnit Daria, you could've sounded like you meant it."

Daria - "Damnit! It's my turn to say damnit!"

... So you're okay with Jake saying it, you're okay with Brittany saying it, but when Daria and Quinn say it, it's a no-no! Blech.

Um... part of the Jake & Helen flashback was cut for no apparent reason. Time constraints, maybe? Well, damn, stop playing those stupid "Girl With Her Head Coming Off" skits and we'd have more time.

'The Misery Chick' -

Tommy Sherman's advances on Brittany were cut. Okay, I get why, but it ruins the story, because Brittany seemed to be perfectly fine with Tommy, and then they oh-so seamlessly cut to after, when Tommy makes fun of Kevin and Mack, and Brittany hates him.

The kegger line's gone too, as Brent Wilkins noticed.

'Arts 'N Crass' -

The title of Upchuck's poster, "Ride, Chucky, Ride" has been cut for reasons unknown to me. Look, you gave us a good shot of the "work of art", we know what he's thinking.

They cut Jane saying "Dammit!" I think you all see the problem there.

Jane - "And tell the truth about how much it can suck."

Daria - "Yes."

... *Slams his head against the keyboard in frustra nmjh*

Sick Sad World was cut, as I predict it will be many more times on Daria's run on The N.

'The Daria Hunter' -

Jamie - "I really want to take a bullet for you."

Mrs. Barch - "Oh, if only you could."

I'm pretty sure this was cut, but I'm not certain. Can anyone confirm this?

The proposed drinking game was cut too.

Jane - "I stopped to wipe out a village of farmers."

I think this was cut, but again, not sure.

DeMartino drinking the alcohol was cut. They aired the beginning of that scene for some reason. They should have just scrapped it all.

Barch making out with O'Neil is cut, but you get an idea of what happened later in the episode.

Jake and DeMartino drunk was cut also. Understandable.

The ending of 'The Daria Hunter' was cut as well.

'Quinn the Brain' -

Was the "Bomb scare at your table?" line cut? You know, because we live in ultra-sensitive times? If not, this is the first episode to air uncut.

'That Was Then, This is Dumb' -

They skipped 'I Don't'? ... That's one of the most important episodes this season. Eeeergh.

Jake's joke about replacing Timothy Leary was cut. Yeah, right, like any of the people who watch The N even know who Timothy Leary is. Maybe 5% at the most.

Helen - "Jake, we fell on our asses on a pile of garbage. I feel like a hog."

Coyote - "Hog! I miss bacon."

I never really considered "ass" a bad word... But hey, what're you gonna do?

And there you have it. Not really as bad as yesterday, but still unforgivable at some parts (The ruined R.E.M. joke edit, for example).

I don't suppose you heard it on TV as recently as 10 years ago. There are plenty of other words that fit just as well, after all. If 'asses' had originally been 'rears,' the sentence would have had the same meaning, and it probably wouldn't have been cut.

I'm always surprised to see how much gets cut out of shows I thought were clean, especially when movies show up on TV. There are Eighties movies like "Weird Science" that had some typical horny teenager stuff, but seemed pretty harmless at the time; but when they show up on TV, they've got all sorts of dialogue beeped or replaced that I'd forgotten about.

Gotta love the religious rightwing that runs Noggin and Nick. They are trying to restore "values" and "morals" into this generation. HA, IMO, what they do is far more immoral than anything that has ever been mentioned on Daria.

Ok, the cuts are silly and stupid.

Even so, I've still found these bowdlerized versions enjoyable, heartbreaking though the cuts may be. I'd almost forgotten how much I enjoyed these stories, how well-written they are. It makes long for a DVD collection of uncut episodes. I'm glad I taped Daria when I had the chance.

Nogginized Daria is still better than no Daria at all.

You ARE right. I'm glad they're even airing Daria, because I'm getting to watch the episodes I haven't seen in years, but I think that the editing could be much better than it is. I don't really mind it being edited, as long as the edits aren't unbelievably stupid.... And there's where my problem lies.

It's day three, and boy, was this a weird one... Read on, and you'll see why.

'Monster' -

Sick Sad World was cut. Luckily it really wasn't a very funny one.

'... The Daria Hunter?' -

What the HELL? They were supposed to play 'The New Kid', but it's 'The Daria Hunter'! Gaah! You'll have to go back to my day two coverage for this one.

'Gifted' -

I think the "at smashing beer cans with his head" line was cut. Eh.

Was the "Dump bodies into the river from our scenic bell tower" line cut?

The "welfare cheats" conversation was cut.

Jane - "I won't say a word. I'll even spring for the keg, but you have to pay for the dry cleaning."

Quinn - "It's too last-minute to throw a party."

Blech. Cutting this ruined the nail polish joke.

Part of Sick Sad World was cut this time, too.

'Lane Miserables' -

... WHAT? That's from the tail end of season three! What the hell are they trying to pull?

Sick Sad World was cut. Again.

Penny - "No, Senor. I have not been inhaling volcano dust. Hello? Hello?"

Okay, that's NOT neccesarily a drug reference. Pfeh.

'Fair Enough' -

Was Sick Sad World cut AGAIN?

DeMartino knocking Jamie down was cut... Since he does this to Joey later and it's not cut, I'm assuming it's due to time constraints. Which sucks, because it was funnier with Jamie.

The part where Stacy asked Daria and Jane if she could call Bret or not was cut, too, probably because of Daria's "Yes. Right now. Before I commit justifiable homicide." line.

And, for a second time, Barch and O'Neil making out was cut.

Jake asking Daria if her boyfriend (Of course there is none) is pressuring her to "uh, do... anything". Was cut. Yeah, forget about seeing "My Night At Darias." No way they could get that to work on The N's squeaky-clean intellectual-poser television block.

Sick Sad World was cut again. Wow.

'Pierce Me' -

This episode features inconsistency after inconsistency, thanks to the brilliant idea of airing 'Lane Miserables' before this. Suddenly, Jake and Helen don't know Trent, and Daria still has a crush on him.

I just wanted to note that for the first time in today's marathon, Sick Sad World aired completely uncut. Whoa.

The "I don't think that's how you spell 'usula.' " joke was cut.

Daria - "You didn't see a weeping virgin or anything, did you?"

If you need to ask if that was cut or not, go to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

And that's day three. The episode scheduling was a lot more ridiculous than the edits. They re-ran 'The Daria Hunter' and for some reason played 'Lane Miserables' one season too early. Tonight's marathon's going to be tricky; my sister's having her birthday party and I'm trying to find a way around it. Good luck to me. If all goes right, I'll have Day Four edits up tomorrow. If not, you're all screwed. Heh.

I noticed another edit in "Pierce me." The word sex was excised from Jane's line, "Boy, Daria, you have the weirdest sex dreams." "My Night at Daria's" definitely won't air on Noggin.

I don't have high hopes for seeing Daria uncut anytime soon because I've witnessed what other networks do to shows they own. Disney heavliy edited Gargoyles for content, including blacklisting an episode that received praise from the groups that usually complain about violence on TV, and it almost always airs after 11PM Eastern on Toon Disney.

Which is sad, I think it would teach a lesson to all the girls out there...

On the plus side: They are airing the credits with the alter-egos intact. At the end, MTV was increasingly "stepping on" this part of the show. Seemed a shame since someone spent time and effort putting together this part of the epsode.

Those alter-ego shots were an important part of the Daria experience. At least Noggin hasn't cut that.

Something else that I realize that I miss: ads. Seriously. Noggin is a commercial-free channel so the only breaks are silly "kid stuff" spots. I guess that can't be helped, however I've come to realize that MTV's commercial interruptions did form a part of the whole experience. Some of those ads were rather clever--many never seen on broadcast stations. Curious.
