Well, I liked it too, but I'm anxious to see what they do with Episode 2. Hopefully it'll have more stuff going on in it.

It was pretty to look at, but it was no "99 and 44/100% Dead". : )

You asked for it :>

Logical flaws and really bad planning on the "evil" side: 1) The combat droids are remote controlled. Then why do they talk to each other? 2) In the battle against Jar Jar's people, the droids are ordered to kill them all (at least in the german version)... how come they start taking prisoners? 3) Why is Anakin able to fly into the hangar of the ultra-important droid-control ship and shoot it to bits? Something that important should be a tad better defended. 4) No backups for the ultra-important droid-control ship? They can't be that expensive, considering it didn't look different from the other ships... 5) Apparently the evil guys don't need their combat droids to (unsuccessfully) keep the princess and her friends captive. (I mean the scene at the end where the good guy get captured by those nifty rolling droids... and when they make their escape, those droids are gone) 6) Darth Maul stupidly watching while Obi Wan retrives his light-sabre, jumps over him and kills him... the poor guy must've been really worn out by the fight against Qui-Gon. 7) In the beginning of the film, Qui-Gon tries to cut through a door with his light-sabre.... at the end Obi-Wan does not try to disrupt the force-field with his light sabre... (OK, that one is excusable)

Anakin has no father... whoohoo... God is the Force.

Apart from thosse points, I actually found the movie to be fun... I especially liked the part where it is said that Anakin is the one to bring balance to the force ... (consider that the Jedi far outnumber the Sith at that moment <veg>)

Bring it on! :D

It's easier to portray communication through speech than it would be to get the watchers to comprehend the orders being sent via the control ship. And their ability to talk is very likely a vanity feature, gives the reagents the ability to speak with them directly, and it makes them look more like "soldiers." Notice that the more powerful battle droids lack this feature.

Okay, technically, you have me there. Maybe the reagants forgot to relay those orders (from Darth Sidius) to the droids, and their basic programming involves the taking of prisoners. It would be well within the overly rich but incompetant aspect of the villians.

Because Episode 1 was like a childrens movie in many ways. I can't defend that any more than I can Jar Jar, not realistically anyway.

But, it is possible that the Trade Federation was so accustomed to stepping on helpless fools that they neglected that key aspect of their defense. It won't be the last time the enemy forgets to defend their core. ;)

Actally, it was the most massive ship in the area. But, yes, I suppose a degree of redundency was in order. But who would expect the defenders to resist under such hopeless circumstances? Evil is, very largely, stupid.

Those are the expensive models. You don't use those if you don't have to. The shield generators alone are extremely expensive to run. And they don't look as much like your own personal army of slave-soldiers as the cheaper model does.

He didn't see the light saber nearby. And the Dark Side tends to decrease ones awareness of his surroundings in favor of greater destructive and coercive power. I think he simply was convinced he'd won. He'd killed the master, already. What threat does the apprentice present?

Yes it is. There is a difference between a physical barrier and an energy field. And, if you recall, Darth Maul *did* tap the barrier once with his light saber. It bliped, and they could probably stick a light saber through the field with enough efort, but it would close up as soon as the blade was ot of it. It's like trying to cut a hole in water (and don't even start talking about ice. You know what I mean.)

He was concieved by the metachlorines. Admittedly, this is a bit of a streatch, but it would explain why he has such a high count. There is no reason why there has to be some decision by a sentient entity for this to happen. It is simply incredibly unlikely, but possible (and inevitable, in a space-time worldview that includes quantum universes. Everything that can happen, does, and will, in some part of the space-time continum).

Now that is a good point. No wonder Yoda didn't like the idea!

What? No mention of the droids falling apart when the ship blows up? No complaints about the metachlorines? I do salute you for not bringing up Jar Jar Binks; Jar Jar must die.

Simply show a tactical screen in the control ship where some lights turn to green over a representation of the droids. That would have emphasized the fact that there is a central control ship a bit more :>

I meant the fact, that they were clearly talking amongst each other (in an R2D2 fashion). But you're probably right, its just the typical "We're bad therefore we completely mess up every usefull technology" syndrome.

Its more likely that Mr. Lucas didn't want to shopw mass executions of cute widdle aliens. But it fits into the image of the bumbling alien villians he used in this film. Actually one could explain their incompetence by having them be complete puppets of Senator Palpatine :>

Hehe... and thats what annoy a lot of the older star wars fans... that the hype around the film involved them but that the movie didn't live up to their expectations.

I agree, they've probably never heard of the list of "Things to (never) do as an evil overlord".

And that's what I hate. If evil is cunning and well equipped and the heroes beat them on equal terms, I like it. Otherwise the evil shouldn't have come to be so powerful anyway... (ok, maybe the got their power through inheritance :> )

And if you just have captured the enemies who nearly were your downfall, you instantly dismiss your most effective soldier, because "they won't do anything because we've clearly won"?

As he's an apprentice himself, he should be aware that they aren't THAT powerless. But its an acceptable explanation. :>

I don't recall that but you're probably right. As i said, that one is excusable/ easy to accept.

What I actually meant was, why didn't he try to cut himself a way through the wall besides the barrier. It even looked to me as if the field-generators were simply built into the wall.

Errr, please remind me again what they were? Some symbiont which allow humans to us the force?

A bit of a stretch? IMO this piece of trivia is worse than Jar Jar...

It probably has happend before, else humans wouldn't be able to use the force.. or would they?

8< SNIP >8

They fell apart? I thought they just keeled over.... (damn, damnned memory)

Why? I've read a few of the "after Endor" books and have come to accept the idea that there is a scientific way of measuring a person's access to the force. The metachlorines are just a cute explantation for that :>

You know, my mind mostly edited him out :> Actually I simply found him to be an animated annoyance which could easily be ignored ... unless one was interested in comic relief or as old as Anakin :>
