Me first. In no particular order, I'd like to see:
1. Helen's and Jake's marriage at the breaking point. The tension's been building all last season, and it's getting to the point that a trial separation may be in order. I don't want them to divorce, though.
2. More character development for minor characters, such as... Andrea. She's been in a lot of episodes, but we still know almost nothing about her. Upchuck. Other fans have stated that his obnoxiousness may be a defense mechanism similar to Daria's cynicism; he avoids intimacy by driving away any interested female with his Lothario act. What if a girl actually responded to his come-ons? He may be like the dog who finally caught the car; he wouldn't know what to do with it.
3. A showdown between Quinn and Sandi. This power struggle has been going on for three seasons; in real life, it would long ago have come to a head. Of course, the other members would have to choose sides--or would the club break up altogether?
4. Daria dating. I discussed this before; now that she's "over" Trent, there's nothing to stop her- especially now that her hangout time with Jane has been compromised by/with Tom.
There are other things I'd like to see, such as Brittany deciding she has a brain after all, perhaps going to Daria for tutoring. Comments? Other ideas?
I would like to see Upchuck and Daria become closer in some way or another. I don't mean dating, but I think the two of them would be better friends than they themselves realize. Maybe a school project or a business trip. (Jake tries to get Upchuck's parents as clients by taking their family along with his on a big trip.) Upchuck's flirtacious comments could all be sarcastic. I have friends who do that a lot. They'll make some comment like, "All the girls want me," and sound like they truly mean it, but I know they've never had a real girlfriend in their entire life. They put themselves down because of low self-esteem, but, not wanting sympathy, they make it sound like they have a huge ego.

The club could never entirely break up. The Fashion Club represents the overpopular group that's present at every high school all across the world. Getting rid of that would diminish some of Daria's appeal.

I have to disagree with you there. The one aspect of Daria that makes the show so unique is that Daria doesn't date. About the closest she's gotten so far was with the new kid, and that didn't work out. Knowing Daria, she'll probably be wary of trying again any time soon.

Hmmmm....I'd like to see a subplot where Mystik Spiral actually does change the name then changes it back by the end of the episode.
I would like some fashion club civil war, where the main plot would be Quinn convincing Stacy to be on her side and then somehow Daria or Jane come and save the day. Then there would be a Fashion Club and a Fashion Team (maybe that's not such a good idea).
Add some shipper stuff and you can call it "Change of Heart" (any plot just about Mystic Spiral probably needs some padding).

(Though admittedly, she was under a lot of pressure at that moment).
They probably are. I mean, it's remotely conceivable that Upchuck at some time has actually gotten some (perhaps from the really slutty girl who may have been Kevin's first), but we never see Upchuck provoke any reaction better than mild amusement from any girls on the show.
Maybe ... but when she starts going to college, she is suddenly going to find a lot of guys being attracted to her.
1) You EXPECT Tiffany to be nasty. Daria's usually merely sarcastic. There's a difference.
2) Daria did something VERY cruel ... she pretended to take Upchuck up on the offer, THEN turned him down.
I think it was partially because she was upset about the whole combination of the DJ's bugging her and her father's illness. But still, I don't think she would have done this if she'd liked Upchuck, even slightly.

Not really. She was actually doing Chuck a favor, as the silence was deafening when the DJ's (_wacky_DJs) were asking the crowd for dates..and getting those "responses" from Sandi and Tiffany. She simply ended the circus after Jodie said "Even Upchuck doesn't deserve this much humiliation."
He's annoying, she doesn't care enough to hate him.

Not necessarily. Remember how we were all speculating a while back on who was doing Andrea's voice, before we found out that it was Susie? Remember how we said that Jessica Cydnee Jackson might have been the one, as Andrea sounded a lot like Jodie? IMHO, Jessica could easily take over the role. (And why not? Kevin Davis Jr. took over as Mack from Paul Williams, and Ms. Jackson sounds a lot more like Ms. Lewis than Mr. Davis sounds like Mr. Williams.)

I think it's obvious that Daria isn't over Trent. Especially after seeing Lane Miz the other night.
I'd like to see Stacy, from the fashion club, actually get some respect. She's obviously the low girl on the totem pole in that little group, and possibly the only one who isn't completely self-serving and egotistic. She actually has a conscience and a soul, and is searching for acceptance and warmth.
Jesus... am I reading too far into her character, or what?
I'm a shipper, by the way, and I'm still hoping for a Daria/Trent get-together.

I agree with that assessment of Upchuck; in fact, I think I may have suggested it first. As to which characters I'd like to see more development of, my choice would have to be Mack. He's the only male character in a position to be shown in a good light, and, well, I'm male. I don't like all this male bashing that I see these days.

I still haven't seen this episode! THIS REALLY SUCKS! And I do agree that next season is the most likely start time, especially with this "Tom" thing (who the hell is Tom?). Still, I think Daria dating would signifigantly change the nature of the show... and we can only hope the change is done well.
Nah. She might realize she's smart, but I think she has too much fun as she is to make any drastic changes. That probably won't happen until college.

Not a bad idea if they can keep it to a single episode. Any longer and we could see a soap opera style story.
Personally I don't get the Andrea thing, maybe its just me,but the only Andrea I give a damn for is my sister. I wouldn't mind a single episode dealing with Upchuck either, or for that matter one with Mack or possibly an episode dealing with the football team altogether.
This has got to happen, its been building up ever since "Malled" and continuing through the later eps of the 3rd season. I know what makes a show like Daria great are the great plotpoints and subplots, and some you don't want to see go and some like this, you want a resolution to in a hurry, those who've seen the entire 3rd season know what I'm talking about. Whatever resolution they decide on it better happen in the 4th season, because it gets more and more sickening every time Sandi and Quinn try to be civil to each other, I can barely sit through these scenes now.
Whether or not she is "over" Trent, I see her possibly looking for a relationship. As someone else said, she will tire of being the 3rd wheel, but will still want to be with Jane as much as possible, to do that, she may have to find someone for her and she can double with Jane and Tom.
Would like to see Mystik Spiral somehow become a success and how it would affect the bandmembers in an episode.
Would also like to see the continued development of Quinn. She became less shallow last year and I'd like to see it continue, but not too much as to change her character in the show drastically, but a little more "un-shallowness" would be good.
I think this is a very realistic thing to happen. Most of my friends are from broken homes. I am lucky, my folks have been together since their high school days, and they're now senior citizens pushing 80. Scary! Yes, no divorce please. My three sisters been through that stuff, too painful to recall, even on TV.
Ooh oh, I do not know who Andrea is. And to think I have seen every episode. Better go back and watch some more. As for Upchuck, I tried his methods in HS too, and one time it backfired with a particular girl. I never acted like that again. ;-) Upchuck's character is well placed, he will always have a place on D.
To some degree this has already been happening, and perhaps best mirrors most of what I witnessed in HS with the stuck up crowd. What a joy it was to see them all at the HS reunion, all looking much worse for wear. Yes, there is some justice in the world! The Sandy in my HS is now a divorcee with three monsters running around her. The Quinn is still looking for Mr. Perfect and just as stuck up as ever. Oops, I digress. I think we can all count on this one happening. The knock down drag out will be cool, if the writers let it go that far. But the break up of the club would kill off the characters to some degree. Then again, we need some sort of development to happen, they cannot just keep going around as they are now without something new, lest they become boring and obsolete.
Do y'all think that this last new episode will really cast a completely new setup for the beginning of next season? I don't know about that, especially based on the ends and beginnings of what we have all seen so far. But anything is possible. I would like to see the characters as Seniors next year, and no more stuck in the same grade syndrome. But this too is a dangerous place to tread, as eventually you wonder, should the show survive, and we all hope it will (YES!), Daria: The University Years! Heck, they're doing it with Buffy Vampire, why not D! As for D dating, that is inevitable. The platform for it to happen has been laid down. Or perhaps we could have an episode where D goes insane briefly for her loss of time spent with Jane due to the new boyfriend, and she ends up in a real padded cell. But that would be getting dangerous for the producers, as dealing with mental health problems on tv has always been dangerous, and the ways are in the world of political correctness now, it probably won't happen. But D seems to me to be the type that could and would have a nervous breakdown? What do y'all think? I think her depression is getting the better of her, if we are to go on anything seen in the last new ep. To keep the comedic tone and flavor of the show, she will probably continue to think a lot and talk about Trent to Jane, and it will not go much further. Too bad. But perhaps the producers are fearful of taking a MASH approach to a successful comedy and turning it too dramatic?
I think we have seen that Brittany has a brain. After all, the things she said to Daria in the bathroom that day when D would not come out of the bathroom stall pretty much shed a light that she does, but that she is just so caught up in her place in the school as the bouncy cheerleader, that she is uncomfortable with progressing beyond it for fear of peer reactions to the negative. Now, if she dumps Kevin and moves on, things could be different. But that may sound the death knell for her character. I have gotten to like her character a lot, and seeing her devilish brother and idiotic, self-absorbed father and brainless step-mother has really paint a picture of what she has had to endure. And it more clearly explains her speech patterns, the stress of it all has caused this pseudo- neurotic sounding voice (portrayed to perfection by the actress). Ironically, the Brittany in my HS was a brunette. Come to think of it, all of our cheerleaders were brunettes, and one was a redhead. And the redhead was the coolest/nicest of the bunch. At the HS reunion she was one of the only sociable people. Wait till y'all get to your HS reunions, they're a blast (Oops, I digress again). And that is something that would be cool for a long time in the future D, a reunion. But back to the present, my primary interest is for the show to continue its development of maturity for all characters, and for there to be some age progression. But would the age progression kill the show after another year? Theoretically yes. Since we only get 13 episodes a season, perhaps we can all think of two seasons of D as one year? The commercial nets do about 22-26 eps. a season.
I think Brittany has already talked to D, but does not want anyone else to know. The two Ds of my old school were the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of my graduating class. Many people went to them for help with homework, but would deny it if ever asked. I must say I never got to know either D at my school, they would just not let anyone into their space. Truly a shame, and neither has shown up to any of the reunions either. And next year is my 20th, ouch (age catches up, in spite of the mind's wanting to stay young forever).
Actually, according to our FAQ it says 2 seasons = 1 year in "Lawndale Time". Thus, it would be that in season one and two Daria is 16 and is a sophmore. In seasons three and four she is a junior at age 17 (Jane at 18 I believe). That makes it easier to slow the growing process, and give the show alot longer life. I too though hope they carry the show over into her "college years".

Thanks for the clarification Cheryl. I should have remembered reading this info in the faq, but memory recall has been a challenge of recent ;-) Now the aging works out ok. Bring on the Daria Senior Year and College Years!! If only live action comedy could live up to D standards.
