It's me, deena lissa, as myself, well, what I mean is, uncovered, unfilered, and just me. I wanted to really post as myself for a LONG time as the only reason I'd done the "deena lissa" bit is so I could post on the Duran Duran newsgroup as a "fresh voice" instead of the same tired old voice that's on a Duran mailing list and seen other places online. Anyways, hi there folks, it's me again, yes, I'm still the same huge "Daria" fanatic, except better since I've finally uncovered myself. Now I shalst shut my trap and go mark these messages "read" or something since I don't see any new messages which have arisen since I last posted as "deena lissa".... :)

p.s.: You can consider this a death of sorts for my "deena lissa" self on a.t.d., at least.

As long as we know that the 'new' you is the same as the 'old' you. Ironically, the 'new' you was also the 'original' you, which is probably been around longer than the 'old' you that we knew. Strange... isn't it?

LOL...actually, the "new" me has definitely been the "old" me for a while...I've posted as myself in various forums since at least September 1997. So the "old" me here was actually the "new" me, while this "new" me is very "old".

God...as Jane said to Daria, "Who would've thought you had a problem communicating?". Or something like that. My brain refuses to work with me today.

But don't worry, I'm still me. Which is refreshing and a bit easy for me because me is the only thing I know how to be. (scratches head) Did that make sense?

"Afternoon Special" is (was?) also the name of a very popular programme on BBC Radio Nottingham.

So that's not so bad. <g>

Geez, Deena-I mean Diane-I don't know if I can handle this. I don't feel like I know you anymore. It's all so unexpected. This is going to take some time to get used to...okay, that's good.

How selfish. You suicides never think about how you're going to affect other people.

Duran Duran? My, honey, aren't we just dating ourselves a touch here? I just can't wait to see an old folks home where the stereo is playing such golden oldies as "The Reflex" or "Hungry like the Wolf".

PS: I'll bet you every other poster on the Duran mailing list is 30 something, anyway.

Watch it!!! Diane isn't the only Duranie Darianite here! I won't go off on a rant, but I will point out that Duran Duran's music is timeless and quite good. Diane is only 20. I am just 29. You're entitled to NOT like Duran, but don't mock people who do.

Isn't a Bill & Ted reference dating yourself a bit?

And by the by, what's wrong with being 30-something? Many posters here are over 30. Yes, I'm a bit unnerved by the fact I'll be 30 in less than a year, but all my friends who are over 30 assure me that it's the best decade of your life.

I have no doubt in my mind that when I'm 64, I'll be listening to BBC Radio 2 (UK easy listening station) playing Duran Duran, Queen, Bjork, Garbage, Oasis, Blur, and the like, while complaining that Radio 1 (Top 40 Station) wasn't as good as it was in my day.

"Ha! I remember listening to The Evening Session, back in '93! Jo Whiley and Steve Lamacq, they knew what it was all about! Whatever happened to John Peel? And Mark Radcliffe and The Boy Lard... Kevin Greening and Zoe Ball... We had proper Radio DJs back then, not like your... your Net-Jockeys, with their dats, and MP5s..."

"Like, cool it, gramps, no-one calls those Cats Net-Jockey's any more, that's like, so '30s, ya dig? Like, get with the Beat, Hepcat..."*

*It'll be the '50s Beatnik revival then, having gone through revivals of the '20s, '80s, '60's and '70s (twice).

Cool yer jets, Babe,

I've actually got you beat by a year, so rest assured my comments were not aimed to smear the decrepit old farts like unto my own self. The image has always struck me as hillarious: elder sixty-somethings at the Sunshine Farm grooving to the Beastie Boys instead of Sinatra, trying to remember their old moves (will old age make popping, locking and breaking dangerous if not fatal?). My on real criticism of Simon and the Boys is that, back in the day, they were way too top 40 for me and the rest of the geeks I hung with. I was more of a Marillion and Roxy Music kind of guy.

Isn't it remarkable how an animated sitcom about a late nineties teen outcast appeals so much to the thirty some-odd crowd? Anyway, I hope you didn't get too overheated on that last exchange. And don't sweat the transition to your thirties, it just sort of grows on you. Sometimes you just have sit back, relax and try to enjoy the experience of having to watch a large carnivorous plant devouring you, inch by excruciating inch.

The new (1 year old) HD of my home machine has been FUBARed somehow. At first, it kept failing to find the boot sector, then just failed to find anything at all.

When setting up the BIOS, the presence of the drive is detected, but when booting up from a floppy bootdisk, only the floppy drive and CD Rom are accessible (a:\ is the floppy, c:\ is the CD )...

Any knowledgable types got an opinion on that? I'd like to think the drive is savable somehow, but I'm coming to the conclusion I have a very expensive new paperweight...

Fortunately, the smaller, older HD is still in the machine, so I can still get things done...

If you don't care about the data you could simply try to re- partition/re-format. (I saved one that way once.) If that doesn't do it, and it's not something stupid like a loose cable, then get a walnut plaque to mount it on for use as a paperweight. The fact that it has been slowly deteriorating is not encouraging. Check to see if there's any warranty remaining. Some drives come with 3-year warranties. Don't overlook the remotest possibility of getting someone else to pay for it.
