Daria in QuickTime

Alright Everyone,

In Mid-July Daria will once again be available online, I will have Quicktime downloads of Season 3 and Season 4 as it airs available in 56k and 160k versions.

Due to the limited bandwidth of the 3rd World server streaming simply won't be practical.

And for the MTV Legal people lurking in this newsgroup the Webserver is located in Santiago De Cuba so you may refer any complaints to the Cuban National Police who I am sure will be MORE than delighted to cooperate with you and your American Capitalist Pig Employers. <sarcasam>

However for the Mac Users, I have a cable line so with AppleShare filesharing we could probably transfer the files quickly thanks to the miricle or MacOS and Brodband Internet access

Ok here's my take on the subject, if I could buy Daria episodes on tape/DVD I would do so, alas the only tape that is available here in the UK is the first one. Yes I know I can buy the NTSC version, but that is not compatible with every video player. Also since we havn't even started airing Season 4 here yet sites like this allow me to at least know what all you US people are talking about. Yes it is illeagal, and in a way I don't condone it, but in a way I also understand why people want to do it. Also I hope no one would seriously sugest that you'd rather watch a real video episode, even compaired to a VHS cassette, it is not really of the same quality. To be blunt the only reason I downloaded the S3/S4 episodes was that I had not seen them and wanted to, I also watched them when they where on TV.

Again, not defending what is after all illeagal, but mearly pointing out that many of us don't want to screw either MTV, or more importantly Glenn creator of such a great series.

I agree with Martin! It is copyright laws that allow artists to create material, and not have it stolen from them in this fashion! Not just Glenn, but if any author or artist can't hope to put there kids though college or retire on the fruit of their efforts, then why would they bother. Capitialism, dispite its flaws, seems to drive the creative engine better than the "peoples paradise" model.

I loved being able to see streaming episodes over the internet, and the clips were nice to have access to. But MTV shut the site down and have by their actions shown they do not support an indie model for this means of distribution, and so I have to respect that.

Since MTV does lurk on these pages, I would like to suggest that perhaps they might want to do this themselves. There is a lot of expertese right here, and I would love to see an OFFICIAL MTV Daria streaming site, set up so it does not compete, but complements the ad revenue that comes from the televised show. It would certainly be a "leading edge" thing to do, and they could find creative ways of bringing in part of the fan base for help putting the site up, and mirroring it (hell, I have space on a fast server and a wide pipe).

First, Daria is supposed to air at 23.00 here. Today it was 22.55, so I missed 5 minutes, thank you so much, even your super-slow videotext said 23.00.

Second, I don't know how far europe is behind the US now, but I have a strong feeling of not beeing up to season 5. As you say, I rather feel like season three, but I'm not sure. It's not that there would be any translation to be done (and it wouldn't work anyway, so don't even think about it!), why are we so far behind?!

And three, why is there no decent Daria merchandize here in Germany? I'd even buy CAV Laserdiscs of this show, but there is only some crappy VHS, and there's no way to have complete seasons or anything...why can't they do a DVD box? I know I should be happy with an imported Jane Lane purse and a badge and a T-Shirt (which isn't even malve!), but come on, there's money to be made!

Finally I'd like to know if I can find some hq graphics of the opening logo and the different outros, everthing I found was "official" and in sick-sad low-res..
