Was it just me, or did Fair Enough really suck? The parts wit Daria and Jane were good, and I like how Quinn was humiliated, but it was too empty. Something was missing. It was 'squeaky' and 'hyper'. Who is *hiring* these writers? Whatever happened to episodes like "Pinch Sitter?"

And isn't it enough that Stacy is a jealous, revenge-minded bitch towards Quinn without having her mother constantly dragging Helen through the mud, too? (Linda's two for two here; is this going to be a trend?) Or... maybe it's a sign of creeping creative senility: if you can't think of a good joke, put them through hell or humiliate them! (David Gerrold described this in his book, "The World of Star Trek". It's a combination of "formula" and "hardening of the arteries", with Star Trek's third and final season being a textbook example.) CCS did a good job of killing off interest in "Beavis & Butt-head" for me, and it's going to do the same to "Daria" if they're not careful.
Of course, that's just *my* opinion, yadda yadda yadda. :-)

I would definately agree about this ep, it just felt like something was missing
Sandi is the jealous one, Stacy is the crier.
They do need some conflict, and you're right it should be toned down a little bit, but I think at this point the writers and producers might have been trying to hard to make this particular episode work when they probably should have just scrapped it alltogether(i.e. almost a total re-write with the main settings basically the same but the story redone).

Conflict is good, I agree, as long as they don't go overboard. In this age of heroic characters being portrayed as flawed (and, in many cases, no better than the antagonist), it'd be nice to see the Good Guy actually *WIN* once in a while. <grin>
Agreed. This episode definitely needed to be (A) totally re-written or (B) shredded completely. I never really expected "Daria" to avoid the occasional clunker episode, but it's still distressing to actually see it. :-(

I don't know what episode the rest of you were watching, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It was more along the lines of "This Years Model" where Daria doesn't play a role, but is more on the sidelines, while the rest of the characters make fools of themselves.
Favorite Highlights
DiMartino as the black knight (The dialogue wasn't particularly funny, just seeing him in the armor did it for me)
Ms. Barch back to her usual "manhating" self, but at the same time, showing something toward Mr. O'Neil.
And what about the disaster that play turned out to be? Quinn not knowing what word to emphasize, so she emphasizes EVERY word. Than Jamie comes out quoting drunken and pervertedness from the Pardoners Tale. The audience begins to laugh, then Jake goes "snicker, snicker, snicker....DAMNIT!!!!" I tell you, this entire season I have never laughed my ass off as much as I did during that scene.
And who can forget Jane and Darias rendition of the REAL Middle Ages?
To update my grading.....on this episode I would give it an A. I'm sorry the rest of you didn't get it.

That's acceptable, provided the story is good. This one proved that even good writers can hit a creative slump.
Predictable. I saw this one coming practically before the episode aired, it was that obvious.
Predictable again, though I was heartened to see that the writers remembered that the show *does* have a past (Ms. Barch's brief tryst with Mr. O'Neil in "The Daria Hunter").
I'm about to use the "P" word again. :-) This was forecast from the moment the play was mentioned, so it didn't come as any great surprise to me (and being one who's been on the receiving end of somewhat similar humiliation, it didn't tickle my funny bone at all).
I'll give you this one. :-)

I don't have a problem with Daria not being the main focal point of an episode. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if most people out there didn't like "This Year's Model" either. My problem with "Fair Enough" is that I didn't feel like there was any real story; in other words, what was the point? Don't get me wrong, there were some hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud but I didn't see much context in them, it was "just a bunch of stuff that happened." Maybe, I missed something but I felt there were multiple episodes trying to get out of this one and anyone of them could have done without the medieval fair.
Personally, I liked that part(they have to keep their mind deprogramming skills sharp)
I got it and while I don't think it's the worst episode ever(it had it's moments), it just wasn't my favorite either. I would say average. Remember, different strokes for different folks, don't expect everyone to agree and get bored if everyone does:)

I know alot of you had deemed this show "Predictable". But what you found in predictablility, I found to be hilarious. When I watched Beavis and Butthead, we know that they're always going to do something stupid, but I laugh anyway. It's what you expect to come from the characters and then seeing it played out that makes it so funny.
