"What Do You Want From Me?"

"What Do You Want From Me?" by Monaco, my favorite song used in any Daria episode that I'd never really heard before. It goes so well with the subject matter of the episode (Quinn the Brain). What do you all think??? Any other good representation songs?

When this topic came up last time (and I can't remember whether it was here or on one of the message boards) I mentioned "Atari Teenage Riot" when the defaced poster is discovered in "Arts 'n' Crass." Not perfect, but very good.

In that same thread, I recall that the scene from "Quinn the Brain" impressed nearly everyone.

I liked it so much I bought the album. Sadly, the rest of the album (and even the rest of that song) wasn't as good.

I also liked the Juliana Hatfield song at the end of "Ill" ("am I only dreaming or did I wake up dead?") which fitted with Daria's mysterious illness and her dream about dying.

As did I. And coming in third in the trifecta of great closing credit songs is Love and Rockets' "Pearl." Which is on another disappointing CD. At least in my opinion. But, of course, I'm old now, so I can't be expected to fully appreciate the artistry of such a subtle masterpiece. Or something.

"Change" and "Feel Alright" (by Supergrass-- not one of my favorite songs, but it's the closing song for "Quinn the Brain") are both on the soundtrack for the movie "Clueless." There's also a cool tune by Velocity Girl, but the rest of the CD is pretty much worthless, IMHO. Try to find it used.

I bought "Cloudcuckooland" (another Lightning Seeds CD) used for $5 at a store in Dallas, and I didn't find anything on it worth the money. Good thing I didn't buy it new. :-) It's a pity, though, because I do like "Change," especially as a driving tune-- especially when I'm driving through someplace rural. (No, I don't know why.)

Yeah, both are very good tunes as well as the tune used at the end of "See Jane Run," "Talkin' To Myself," by, uh, I forget. Just check out OD for the artist. :-)

BTW, am I the only one who's noticed a growing increase of the use of the phrase "or something?" I'm not criticising, I'm just observing, or something.

What, on the show, or on this newsgroup? :] For me, it's a nice way to qualify what I'm saying as not entirely serious, or not necessarily backed up by solid facts. I once read a scathing article about the phrase, basically implying that it made us all sound like morons... too bad I can't recall all the details.

It's on two albums, the one I have is "Like You Do - Best of the Lightning Seeds". It only seems to have been released in the UK though, eg. www.amazon.com only list it as a "UK import", at an appropriately inflated price. The rest of the album is a bit lightweight though, although it's ok. I don't think it would get our resident musician Alli's seal of approval though.

She also appears (and sings) in My So-Called Life of course, as the angel in the "So Called Angel" Christmas episode.
