Episode 1 of the New Season is Prod #307

Hey everyone...

Tonight's episode, the first of the new season, is Production #307.

This was not an MTV typo.

Initially, "Daria! The Musical!" was intended as the first episode of the second bloc of "Daria" episodes. Hence the 7th episode of Season 3. The production was assigned #307 per MTV Animation custom.

However, MTV decided to run the episode as the Season Premiere instead. So this is why the discrepancy.

This isn't a slam against the person who wrote this, just something that's been on my mind.

Does anyone care in what order the episodes are produced? I've noticed that on some episode guides for other shows they list them by the production number. Personally I prefer to see episodes listed by when they aired.

That's why I like my system better and why I continue to use it, since it's based on the order in which the individual episodes are aired and in which season ("Daria!" gets the number 3-27, it was the 27th episode aired and it was shown in the third season). Anyway, people do like to keep tabs on production numbers just beacuse it can be an easy way to keep track of the episodes.

I prefer to number the episodes the same way MTV does so that when MTV publishes the schedule on their web page I can look it up in my database and find the title. If we have a scheme where everyone uses their own numbering scheme then we'll all end up so confused we won't know what's what.

Along with the episode production number in your database just add another field showing the date the episode first aired.

I agree with your comment and that's why I added the MTV number when people asked me. I'll still use the episode title and the MTV number (if I know for sure what it is before hand- otherwise it's just a guess on my part). I don't want to cause any confusion over episode names or numbers.
