Tiffany: I have a very steady hand when it comes to putting on eyeliner and I can count to five in three languages (or is it three in five languages?). I think I want to do something in the fashion world, like be a model or design bows.

Three languages? Well, I don't suppose Tiffany is the sort to learn new languages with books and audio tapes, so I think she must have picked them up from her family.

Speculation? Chinese? Something else? Maybe she can speak Mandarin AND Cantonese?

Then again, it's been speculated in this ng that Blum-Deckler may be a Jewish name. Hebrew or Yiddish maybe?

Speaking of hardcore Daria fandom, did everyone catch Jane's little dig in one of the Sarcastathon intros? I think it was for "The Teachings of Don Jake". Something like "...watch episodes you've already seen to catch all the subtle nuances we never put there in the first place."

I have a feeling that someone at MTV was lurking on a few Daria message board/chat rooms last summer after DDMD.

Of course you can say that MTV 'could have' gotten all of the information for the 'debate' from their own message board and chatroom at the MTV site.

However, I really don't think the people they are poking fun at hang out at their site at all.

Well, given that I learned how to count from one to ten in Spanish by watching 'Sesame Street,' I don't know if you can read too much into Tiffany's multilingualism. Counting is about the easiest thing you can learn to do in any language (I can count from one to ten in French and I can go from one to a hundred in German, but I'm not going to be reading untranslated Flaubert any time soon).

Nevertheless, I would be interested to learn more about Tiffany's background. I suspect she's of Japanese descent rather than Chinese - she was wearing a very Japanese-style outfit on the 'Princess Fairy' cruise ("Just Add Water"). Ms. Li, on the other hand, is probably Chinese (Li is a typical Chinese name, IIRC).

(Yes, I actually spend a small part of my time wondering about the ethnic background of characters on 'Daria.' Well, it beats trying to figure out how Scooby-Doo could stand on his hind legs...)

The only real question, which has been discussed before, is whether the Morgendorffers are Jewish or not. Obviously they're not practicing Jews (or practicioners of any religion, apparently).

I think they're not Jewish, if only because the late "Mad Dog" Morgendorffer sounds so much like a Bible-Belt Christian fundamentalist father.

There are many things she could be. Korean or Vietnamese, for instance. We're never gonna know, unless the writers decide to tell us. Speculation about Tiffany is easy because, let's face it, we don't know nearly as much about her as we do about Daria, Jane, or Quinn.
