Wow. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I wouldn't mind seeing new eps of 'Daria' sprinkled within the old ones. From the looks of this block, 'Daria' could fit into it quite nicely. Thanks, MKH.

Billy West is the guy who did the voice of Stimpy throughout the series and who agreed to also do the voice of Ren after Spumco was thrown off their own series.

The person who really "sold out" Spumco was Bob Camp. Camp was one of the four original Spumco "Big Shots" who founded the studio, along with John K., Jim Smith and Lynne Naylor. (now Lynne Naylor-Reccardi...she is now very much a part of the Powerpuff Girls team and might be more familiar now from PPG credits.) It was Camp's defection to Nickelodeon that basically screwed over any chance of Spumco getting their series back. Camp was the person who helped Nickelodeon found "Games Animation" which later became "Nicktoons Studios".

Camp later went on to ignomy doing a series no-one remembers very well called Oggy and the Cockroaches for French media company Gaumont. It was aired on Fox Kids in the US.

However, it would be funny as hell if someone other than Billy West got the role of Stimpy this time. :-)

At the moment TNN simply owns the rights to the original R&S series. They are currently in negotiations to get John K. back onboard to do new episodes, but given the history between Viacom and John K as well as the recently passed down mandate that TNN must have full ownership of all shows that air on the channel, I doubt that John K will be coming back to do new episodes for Viacom...

Viacom owns Ren & Stimpy, lock stock and barrel. This was settled a few years ago. If Viacom wants more R&S cartoons, and TNN is a division of Viacom, they can hire Spumco, or for that matter Studio Ghibli, Gainax, Clamp or even Disney or WB Animation. In any event, the studio hired to make more R&S episodes would be hired by the owners of the copyrights on the characters "Ren" and "Stimpy."

Viacom could have started a new R&S in its own Nicktoons Studio, a cartoon studio which is actually a direct descendant from "Games Animation," the studio that Nickelodeon set Bob Camp up with to make more R&S episodes in 1992. They could have used Klasky-Csupo, a studio Viacom owns a controlling interest in. But the press release in question (cf. link in quoted material) states that negotiations are in process for JOHN K. to return to making R&S.

Again, it is Viacom that owns Ren & Stimpy and all characters pertaining to said series. It seems like Viacom finally (after almost 10 years) realizes that in order to have this become a viable (no pun intended) franchise for them again they have to bring the creative team responsible for the "classic" episodes back again. And that would be Spumco, Inc.

B & B being revived I can believe. They've turned up on various occasions like the MTV 20th Anniversary Special and again on an episode of Saturday Night Live. Plus more rumors suggest the possiblility of a B &B revival than a Daria one. I'd like to think Daria would be included, but it may be too soon.
