Yeah, but they left a lot of good episodes off of that list. No "Lane Miserables" or "Lucky Strike" or even "The Big House" for crying out loud!

Oh, I don't think so. Even for the powers-that-be at MTV, it seems unusually clueless to offer an incomplete list of episodes to choose from. Damn it, if you're going to throw a sop to the fans, make it a good one! (The omission of "Lane Miserables" especially irks me, since I've only seen that particular episode once.) They own all the episodes, don't they? There's no reason why they couldn't have provided a complete list.

Nope. Ever since the Tonight Show fiasco of the 60s (when MANY priceless recordings were destroyed by NBC) production companies have been very careful to keep copies of master tapes.

To be fair? Excuse me? How can you be "fair" to an idiot manager who decided that three inches of space was worth more than a tape of a program that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce. No flame intended, but this just doesn't make sense to me.

At any rate, it cost NBC PLENTY in coming years. Carson created his own production company so that HE would control the content and master tapes. As a result, NBC lost control of Carson...and his program.

But back to Daria...<G>....

Thank god the Museum of Television & Radio exist to preserve such tapes. Now if we can't get MTV to put all episodes of Daria on DVD, maybe we can persuade them to send the unreleased episodes to MT&R. Of course I'd prefer that the show goes on DVD like the rest of you.

In addition to the good points made by the other posters, I'd also like to note that some of the episodes omitted from the poll were shown during the last marathon on MTV ("Esteemsters," "Cafe Disaffecto," and "The Misery Chick," among others), and "Lane Miserables" was released on video (in the U.K., grumble, grumble), so I'm pretty sure MTV's got 'em all.
