I was a bit worried about the premise of a teen magazine editor coming to Lawndale to talk to Daria...but to quote Val, this show rocked! Great lines from start to finish. And Annie Lennox over the closing credits! Val reminded me of a combination of Quinn and Brittany (when they get to be thirty-something, that is). I rate this show very highly...perhaps as highly as "Daria Dance Party"...not at the absolute best ("Misery Chick," "Write Where It Hurts") but close.
I'm sure there are those her who were/will be amused by the title of Daria's article, "My So-Called Angst." It's too bad they didn't expand on that just a little bit more.
Notice who raised his hand when Val asked if anyone needed dating advice? I suspect they're going to continue to have some fun with the O'Neil/Barch relationship for a while.
Did/does anyone really bother trying to stay "edgy"? When I was a teen I didn't bother keeping up with fashion, music, etc. I didn't have much of a clue about the really popular stuff and what's more I didn't care. Still don't. It's really nice to see this stuff being satirized. I suppose my attitude might be attributed to age, but I've always been this way. Maybe that makes me an anti- teen. Or an anti-whatever.
However the whole episide seemed a little cliched: popular figure comes to town and the whole school turns itself inside out. How often have we seen that storyline in TV and movies? It was a worthy episode but I think it might have been nice if the celebrity aspect could have been handled with a fresher approach. Or maybe this is the only approach possible--maybe this is exactly how the real world behaves. Or at least that part of the real world I never see. When celebrities come to town I never take any notice. I kind of figured most other people wouldn't either.
It seems the kind of thing they'd include in a Daria book... perhaps when they come out with the next one, it'll be in there.
I just keep waiting for a LHS faculty spin-off show, in a parody of those awful soap operas... "Timothy... I know Ms. Barch is carrying your octuplets, but... I...." <alien pops out of Ms. Manson's chest, devouring Mr. O'Neill whole>
Oh, my... you need to visit Kenosha. A *lot* of people here spend too much time and money trying to remain on top of the latest thing.
It seemed on par with the non-fantasy S3 eps: not horribly bad, but not fantastic either. B-/C+ material in my book.
-Mindy Note: my sig is now a note from my school counselor that was sent home, regarding the class I have with him. Read on, on the off chance you care. "I have some concerns about Mindy in my class. She overtly shuns interaction with the other students in my class. She has several times commented that she finds the class a waste of her time - despite my attempts to explain the value of the skills we talk about and practice in class. In her defense, she does put up with a lot of mocking by some of the other students in class, and so I can see here she would have a low level of trust when it comes to participating in class activities (which she occasionally does not). I think much of this she brings upon herself as a ay of distancing or shielding herself from others. It tends to have an infectious effect on the group dynamics. "Since Mindy is such a brilliant student" (ROFL) "It comes as no surprise that when we are defining concepts in class she is always at the forefront. She will usually make the attempt to participate if she is in the proper frame of mind. My hope is that she will take the class more seriously in the future." Does this remind anyone of the note in "The Daria Diaries" that Mr. O'Neill sent home regarding Daria's negative attitude?

But you're partially right about one thing--I'm not going to bother with you any more. Because you're simply not worth the time.

I was thinking that. On my system, � is displaying as the Euro currency symbol.
There is an ISO three-letter-code for the Euro: EUR. So I suppose Q�O could translated either as Qeuroo (Q+Euro+O) or as Qeuro (Q+EUR+O). Tricky to pronounce, since Qeu is an unusual group. Kure-oo or kure-oh, I suppose? Or as keh-roo or keh-row, for Francophones? ;:-)
On Dejanews it's showing up as a box. So essentially there's a "Q", a box, and an "O". Thus, whenever I see "Q�0" I immediately think of "QUO", as in the '70s/'80s group Status Quo (yes, I know, it's more than just a group name, but I like their music so I gotta refer to it as that).
So...it could be "Quo quo dammit"...?

But the truth is so often too weird to credit The question of troll names much weirder than most. Is _that_ thing a Euro? A box? He should edit -- Or is it a he/she, a troll or a ghost?

Heh, it made me laugh, which, as I've said, doesn't happen much. :) I think everyone should stop picking on Q�0, though... I mean, he obviously deserves it, but it's probably not his fault... Errm, he doesn't seem like the sort of person who has many friends IRL, it's not really fair to be mean....
LOL, sorry! I'm just going through a "being nice" phase or something... I did a similar thing on alt.music.nirvana, everyone was picking on this racist homophobic guy, and I said nobody had any right to insult him, etc, and the guy started putting "I love Alli!" at the end of every post, LOL.... I'm not sure I'll get the same reaction out of Q�0, but that's probably a good thing, LOL....

Yes, but in order for it to have been truly unfair, we would have teased a Q�0 who had made a conscientious effort to befriend us. So far, Q�0 has only been a nasty nuisance on this group. So it's not like we're being unfair.

Yeah, but is it ever fair to be nasty to anyone? I don't think it is....Q�0 probably has his reasons for being a nuisance, and although most of us would probably consider them to be pretty pathetic, they're his reasons.....But, erm, he *is* being a nuisance, so I guess he can't complain if people here are nasty to him....
Well said, Alli. I'm now going to make a general point, not a comment on Q�O or anyone who's exchanged views with her/him: fighting nastiness with nastiness only makes things nastier. Escalation, and all that. If someone irritates us so much that our only interaction with them will be a nasty one, it's better, IMHO, to avoid interacting with that person.
How come there are so many LOLs in your posts then? Do you use it to mean something else? Maybe you're calling us a Load Of Losers without us realising it. It's like someone I knew used to sign off their postings with TTYL and it was never quite settled amongst the rest of us whether she meant "Talk To Ya Later" or "Ta Ta You Losers". When I first got on Usenet I used to ROFL quite a lot, or at least LOL anyway, but over the years either people have got less funny or else I've become inured to Usenet humour as I don't find myself laughing out loud much these days. alt.folklore.computers used to be full of absolute killers but these days it tends to be a bit too ontopic. Come to think of it, the release of Windoze 95 was the source of much of the merriment, such as in this classic exchange:

Ah, what you need is TLOL (Theoretical Laugh Out Loud), or possibly LIL (Laugh Inside Loud). Some people also use LOLVQ (laugh out loud very quietly), especially if it's late at night. Just for you though Alli, I've coined TDTL (too depressed to laugh), or as the exam season gets near, TBLT (too busy to laugh).
I like the first one, I'll try to remember to use that...but old habits are hard to break, and it's an extra letter... <g> [...or should that be "<tg>"...?] :)

It's from The Prisoner (which was a sort of forerunner of Teletubbies, well it had a Green Dome and was set in a mysterious and idyllic Nowhere anyhow), and is an onomatopoeic sign-off rather than an acronym. It also serves as a universal sign of recognition amongst Patrick McGoohan fans.
Normally I'd be against someone speaking for everyone, but when the issue is someone who decided to come in and insult everyone on the newsgroup without reason (many individually but the group more often), I tend to agree the feelings will be negative.
