Thanks for the reply. I'mso damn shy this is the only way I can communicate openly. Honestly, i'm so bad it takes me 15-20 minutes to work up the nerve to order a pizza. Don't even ask how long it takes to get the nerve to talk to a woman. See ya. A.J.

So if the person answering the phone in the pizza shop is a woman you just hang up?

OK, so we've established that you can communicate on the Internet, where one wrong word, one phrase taken the wrong way, or an unpopular opinion can result in a flamewar of apocalyptic proportions (alt.tv.daria being an exceptional island of calm). And you state that you're new at it. You've surely been communicating face-to-face for far longer, unless you were plugged in at birth, so you already should have at least as much face-to-face communication skill as you do online. Since people in face-to-face conversation are ALWAYS going to exhibit far more restraint than they do when they're flaming someone online (unless they're quite certain you're not carrying a weapon) you pretty much have nothing to worry about. What's the worst that could happen? So you talk to a woman, there are two possible outcomes: 1. She blows you off. Big deal. You were wondering if she was interested, now you know. 2. She decides you're wonderful, you get together, pick out a pattern, and soon you're wearing a suit & tie every day like all the other faceless saps, living in a bland little house in a boring little town and doing SO well you're in debt up to your disappearing hair.
What is there to worry about? <G>
Of course there IS the off chance of the encounter leading to personal and spiritual satisfaction.

I'll go with #1, but#2 is there somewhat, i'm already a faceless sap, but it's what works for me now.

Yes, then i build up the nerve to call again, of course by then i've lost a few pounds. Which works wonders in keeping the figure down.

Wow! I thought I was the only one with that problem. I will do anything to avoid phoning people I don't know. I took a job on an IT helpdesk with the idea that it would force me to talk to people and I'd get better at it, the result was it sent me nuts, i quit and started my own biz on the net where the nearest I have to come to communicating is to send emails.
Bettster, Still waiting for the day when you can do everything online.
I never liked that... I had to call a gzillion people most nights when I worked at the library to tell them I'm calling from the Kentwood Library, the item you've requested has come in and we'll hold it for three days.
It became really annoying when:
1. The person did not speak English 2. They asked me questions I did not know the answer to 3. The asked me to do something I couldn't do being the lowest-type person here helloooo

No, you DON'T order at the window you order at the SPEAKER and even if you missed it well GO BACK because I am not the person who takes your ORDER. And the ketchup was really just that one day...

the only problem i have with e-mail is that i can't stand leaving stuff in the inbox, but once a message disappears into my folder (shared e-mail address..) it is invariably forgotten. last time i checked i had over 40 e-mails in there to reply to, most of which are months old. so if anyone here has e-mailed me and i haven't replied, i may need *reminding*.. err try sending the message again or something... ;)
[on a completely unrelated note, i think my cat is suicidal.. i just had to pull her back inside after she climbed out of the window onto the window ledge... bloody stupid creature lol.. mind you, when i lived in greece, we had a cat which jumped off the fifth floor balcony (i think that's 6th floor in merkan-speak) and survived with only a bruise and a lost tooth...]

Quite simple, and surprisingly satisfying. Simple mind, simple pleasures.

Just take a seat here while we rid you of any desire to utter a "*giggle*" or use multiple exclamation marks on the posts...it won't hurt a bit, it'll just feel like someone's tickling you...one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand, four one thousand, five one thousand, six one thousand, seven one thousand, eight one thousand, nine one thousand, ten one thousand...OK, you're pretty much done. Now step inside this quarantine chamber for a couple minutes and you're free to move about the newsgroup.

Your ISP doesn't provide news service, or does it just not carry alt.tv.daria? This will be a lot easier if you use your local service rather than having to wait for all those web pages to load in order to read (especailly now, with over 100 messages a day).
