If Viacom, the current owners of MTV, wanted to revive Daria, would you prefer
a) a continuation of her life in college b) a set of 'lost episodes' or c) an experimental series that placed her and her friends in other genres? (ie Daria set in space, Jodie trying to catch a certain roadrunner, ) (Daria or Jane getting some wishes from a 'fairly odd' source)
The last two options could be an opertunity for some fanfic writers to get their foot in the door, so to speak. :)
(I know one fanfic in particular that would be *perfect* for Spike TV) (but then, considering its quality and the current market, it might ) (be considered too good)

Actually Is It College Yet? set things up perfectly for a second series. Raft University, where Daria is bound, is in Boston. So is Boston Fine Arts College, aka BFAC, where Jane has been accepted.
Have Mystik Spiral on an endless tour of the US, Canada and Mexico, and use the song "Dirty Water" by the Standells as a theme song, possibly covered by the Foo Fighters, and you've got a winner. "Oh I love that dirty water...oh Boston you're my home..."
Oh yeah: hire Kara Wild and CE Forman as part of the writing team and give Anne Bernstein Story Editor duty as well as be the head writer. And don't do it unless Glenn Eichler is directing.
I think because I almost dont want Daria to change I would chose the lost episodes. Second to that would be college episodes because another part of me does want to see her develop some more.
That depends heavily on the characters they put in around her. The one thing that would put me off is if they attempted to be too faithful to the original line-up. Obviously, from the end of IICY, it was intended that Daria and Jane would pretty much stay in contact, but I wouldn't be too happy to see the same group of characters around Daria.
OK as long as they don't repeat themselves, as has been known to happen on some series.
Not so sure about this one. Too easy to take too many liberties.
Anyone in mind? ;)
The one thing I would be really unhappy about is that they revived Daria for the wrong reasons, i.e. they recreated the series as a way of moralising to the public or just plain old getting some money out of the product. If there are stories good enough to make, I'm all for it, but let's make sure the creative side is good before charging in. I've seen too many series spoiled because the execs wanted to milk it beyond the creative elements' ability or willingness to develop the concept.
It actually sounds like you'd want Daria and Jane to communicate via letters and/or the occasional phone call. I think these would make good openings/denouments for some of the episodes and offer an opportunity for the writers to expand a bit by showing the environment(s) that Jane, Daria, Quinn and the rest of the cast deal with in the meantime...
But I'm rambling. X^
As far as character( type)s go, after viewing series like Undergrads and Mission Hill, I can think of a few 'additions' that would help the new series along. (And I don't mean Gimpy or Rocko from the former...although, if the audiance wants them, who am I to judge? *shrug*) I'm sure a Neo- flower child like Posie Tyler would drive Daria up the wall and a 'tomboy' like Jessie (from Undergrads) or Kylie (from Extreme Ghostbusters) would make an interesting 'companion'...or fodder for Daria's quips.

Mean Girl: I don't care who you are. You just stay out of my way.
[The girl storms off]
[Daria wiggles her right 'claw']
Daria: Meow...hiss.

Either way, I'll be taking another look at IICY before I even consider writing something like this. (I can only hope the writers at Viacom will do the same. Not that I doubt them, of course) :)
*makes it a point to read the rest of the 'Weekenders' thread at r.a.a*
Perhaps, but I think that the characters are versatile enough that you can place them into (almost) any situation and it would be funny.
For example, in one of the storylines I thought up (but haven't really put to paper yet), Daria enters an experimental 'virtual reality' machine and, at one point, winds up on Eternia, home of the self-proclaimed, 'Masters of the Universe'. She is captured and questioned by Skeletor and, when he doesn't get the information he needs, tells Evil-Lyn to take her to a prison cell.
While they're in one of the hallways...
---------------------
Daria: No offense, but why do you put up with that bonehead? If you wanted to, you could turn them all into hamsters and rule this place yourself.
[Evil Lyn smirks]
Evil-Lyn: Would you like to be my first test subject?
[Daria's eyes widen for a moment]
Daria: Point taken.
[Evil-Lyn chuckles]
Evil-Lyn: I like you, Daria, you have a good head on your shoulders. So why don't you tell us where you hid that teleportation device?
Daria: Because I already told you, the mad scientist running this 'show' is outside the machine. I have no control over where, or when, I'll end up.
[Evil-Lyn looks skeptical]
Daria: I could probably tell you how to get into Grayskull though.
[Evil-Lyn stops walking for a moment]
Evil-Lyn: Wait a minute. You know how to get into *Grayskull*?
[Daria also stops and turns toward Evil-Lyn]
Daria: Well...I saw He-man lift his sword and say a code word once...but I'm not sure if it still works or not.
Evil-Lyn: It doesn't matter. If there is a way into Greyskull, Skeletor will want to know about it. This calls for a celebration.
[Evil-Lyn then notices Daria's wry expression]
Evil-Lyn: What are smiling at?
Daria: Nothing.
[Evil-Lyn half-scowls] [Daria sighs]
Daria: All right...not to sound like my sister, Quinn, but you look like someone's wet dream dragged through about 50 stables. I'm guessing there aren't too many tailors around this place?
Evil-Lyn: No, and I've had to repair this tattered rag so many times over the years. I'm assuming you have a better idea?
Daria: Maybe I do, and it won't involve a sweater or some tacky sailor suit...and we may just make the designers at Mattel suffer.
[Daria smirks] [Lyn flashes an evil grin]
Evil-Lyn: I like the way you think...
[Daria and Lyn continue walking down the hall]
Evil-Lyn: ...although, where is this 'Mattel'?
Daria: On some planet with braindead talking horses and children living in the clouds. Trust me, you wouldn't like it.
Evil-Lyn: I wouldn't last a day there?
Daria: Try three minutes...and their milkshakes are murder.
---------------------
I could probably include parodies of Yu-Gi-Oh, the Littles and other horrid/mediocre programs but how many of these would the audiance read before they got tired of them?
I (along with the requisite television execs) would have to read a few more fanfics to really decide but I'm pretty sure that, if you were willing to allow it, a few of your fics would become candidates. ;)
Believe me, I know what you're talking about. Some of the best shows ever made, (ie Duckman, Spawn, Animaniacs) started to wear out their welcome when the writers ran out of ideas. As much as I'd like to see 'the Last Duckman Story' the writers and animators would have to tread *very carefully* in order to satisfy theirs fans while ending the series on a fittingly palatable note. (ie How would they explain Tammy chicken or King Chicken's fear of sex when just the opposite occurred in 'Cocktails for Four'?)
Still, if the original team wants to give it a try (or they can find a few talented individuals who are *very* familiar with the original material) and the network/studios aren't too strict with the series' content, it could very well match, or even top, the original.
But, as with anything else, we'll see what happens. :)

In a way, yes. Effectively what I would hope is that they don't get into the habit of rehashing old stuff and reusing old stories. That would be pointless.
Oh yeah? Anywhere interesting? ;)
Certainly hopeful. This needs a bit more thought... :)
Actually, I was thinking of a DARIA/FAIRLY ODDPARENTS parody! I was just coming up with one called FAIRLY ODD SIBLINGS, where Daria (Timmy) is a misunderstood little girl, who's ignored by her parents and is being baby-sat by her older sister Quinny (parody of Vicky), but she gets wishes from two little goldfish who are actually her fairy godsiblings Trent and Jane (only they have colored hair and wings like Cosmo & Wanda)! Tom would be like Trixie Tang (Timmy's crush), Jodie and Brittany would be like AJ and Chester, and Mr. DeMartino would be like Mr. Crocker, who's always looking for . . . FAIRY GODSIBLINGS!!!

Well, I don't know how well the audience would receive it but, if *you* think it would entertain them, go for it! :)
Believe me, I've thought up stranger concepts like giving the characters defects and amputations (ie Daria without eyes, Quinn without a mouth...), Daria and a certain teenage robot switching bodies and a full-blown crossover/amalgamation featuring every toon ever made (ie Daria as an earthworm in a mechanical suit, Jane as a darker, and far more powerful, version of a certain 'toonage twit'...)
And again, the characters are versatile enough that you could put them in any situation and it would be funny (although giving Quinn or Brittney superpowers would be a bit of a 'stretch', even if it would prove an interesting 'Reed'. 4give me.) :)

Of course, the question comes to mind... would the resulting fic be a fusion(ie Daria and Jane as Utena and Anthy, respectively), or a crossover?(Namely, Daria goes to Ohtori, and all hell breaks loose.)
Of course, it would be worth it just to see Daria's reaction to Nanami and her trio of lackeys... >D

Hmm... the former, maybe put Daria in for Rose Bride, Jane as the wannabe prince, and possibly a few of the other Lawndale regulars as Ohtori stand-ins....
"You know, this dress does absolutely nothing for me," Daria noted as she waited for Jane to ascend to the tournament arena. "You think /you/ look bad," Jane's voice drifted across the arena from the entrance. "They wouldn't even let me keep my boots! Here!" Jane handed a rather overstuffed mouse to Daria. In return, Daria handed a sword to Jane. "Um... aren't I supposed to pull this from..." "You can forget that!" Daria warned the current Ohtori champion. "Look, just go and beat him. We're missing Sick Sad World! It's a special on carnivorous vegitation." "So what do we have here this time?" Jane looked across the arena and saw... "Hi!" said Kevin, picking his ear with the business end of his sword, trying to look like a serious duellist whilst still retaining his football padding. "If we wait long enough, perhaps he'll do himself in," Jane mused. "Seems a shame to sacrifice a perfectly good rose," agreed Daria.
And Brittany would make a scary Bride. "Kevvy, this dress is too long! I can't jump in it!"
Oh, and Sandi and the FC = Nanami, Aiko, Keiko, and Yuuko. x.x; Sandi's more or less just like Nanami... only more annoying. ^^;
